Beneficial animals for the garden, Blackbird

I have talked and will continue to do so in a section of the blog about animals that are harmful to the garden, but there are also many animals that are beneficial to the garden. These are the predators that help us control pests in the most efficient and clean way possible. Our job will be to attract them and respect them so that they can help us get the best harvests.

The blackbird is a medium-sized bird that is mainly distributed in Europe, the Mediterranean and some areas of Asia. It is not a migratory bird and spends its entire life in the same place where it was born. It has an unmistakable appearance, especially the male, which is dark black and has a striking orange beak.
Its behavior is also very characteristic; it loves to jump and walk almost more than flying. Its flights are very short.
But above all, it likes to dig in the ground, move leaves or trunks in search of tasty insects.

It is mainly an insectivore and a great help for the garden as it loves slugs, snails, caterpillars and any other medium-large insect that it can find in the garden or orchard.
We should not disturb it and if it makes its nest in our hedges or in some fruit tree we can be satisfied.
One way to attract it is to have a compost area, this will make it become its favorite hunting area. Putting mulch on our plants will also delight it.
