I have talked and will continue to do so in a section of the blog about animals that are harmful to the garden, but there are also many animals that are beneficial to the garden. These are the predators that help us control pests in the most efficient and clean way possible. Our job will be to attract them and respect them so that they can help us get the best harvests.

Of course I will start with what is probably the greatest ally of a horticulturist, the ladybird. This little insect is well known to everyone and when we are children we never stop chasing it. The ladybird is a super predator, something like a jungle tiger but with a much bigger appetite. It is a carnivore that loves our pests, especially scale insects of any variety and aphids.
Ladybirds are widely used in organic farming greenhouses to keep pests at bay. The adults eat a lot of insects but the truly voracious ones are their larvae that during their growth period eat non-stop, whether they are aphids or scale insects.
We must respect them and not use insecticides that can kill them. We can also attract them with plants that they like, such as marigolds or calendula. And in winter, if we have an insect hotel, they will stay with us to hibernate.
Thank you very much for supporting my blog and I look forward to your comments.!
