Splinterlands Social Media Challenge and Opening 33 Foundations Packs
Splinterlands was the game that introduced me to Hive over four years ago now. It's been a fun four years, sadly for the first year I really didn't post at all. I really missed out on a year of a great opportunity, but I had a great time playing the game. Recently I decided to give Frontier Mode a try after pretty much ignoring it after completing the tutorial. Once again, a mistake I now regret because it's a lot of fun and pretty challenging.
For the last week or so I have been getting destroyed by people placing their level 2 A'lan Musketeer at the rear of their teams. I had two copies but really needed the third to level up my card to gain the extra attack of two ranged, multiplied by two since he attacks twice per turn. So I sold a gold card for more than enough to buy my third copy and leveled him up. I'm so glad I did because he's a strong addition to my teams when I know I'll be up against a team with little to no armor.
To demonstrate I chose a battle that was very close, I very nearly lost and would have had it not been for the upgraded Musketeer!
Here is the link to view the battle in it's entirety. But here is a summary with some highlights:
This match has a mana cap of 38, which isn't too low which is nice. The rule sets are only cards with five or more health are available and cripple is applied after each attack decreasing the max health by one unit. I started off with archon Marlai Singariel which is now maxed out at level 4 and chose my tank as Asel Alagosdil which I recently managed to max out at level 3 as well. Next up I brought in my level 2 Great Bear Druid, then my level 2 Mystic Scaleweaver, and to finish off A'lan Musketeer which I just maxed out at level 2.
My opponent also brought in a level 4 Marlai Singariel. The tank was Port Guardian level 5, followed by Great Bear Druid level 2, then Water-Logged Wizard at level 4, and on the tail end Mystic Scaleweaver at level 2. Really not a bad lineup, it got me a little bit worried when I first saw it!
My tank didn't last long, but neither did my opponents with the four magic attack from the Scaleweaver.
That left me with Druid on Druid, with mine at a two health disadvantage. Now I was really worried.
Here you see the tail end of the attack from the Musketeer, the four attack damage per round really takes a toll on your opponent.
Now we are getting near end game, and things were looking pretty dodgy. My Scaleweaver was down to one health against seven for the opponents. But here is where the Musketeer saves the day with four damage followed by four more from my Scaleweaver.
And I managed to pull a win, thanks to the Musketeer! This is why you see him at the tail end of so many teams now, his attack is massive and can really be the game changer in a match. I'm glad I finally have him maxed out at level 2! The more damage you can inflict per turn really makes a difference. Just be careful if you think you are coming up against a lot of armor, then magic is the way to go!
I highly recommend leveling up the A'lan Musketeer, it really can be a big game changer!
Opening Thirty-Three Foundations Packs
You may ask why thirty-three? To be completely honest I decided to purchase thirty packs when I found a good deal, and then I won three more in my gameplay this morning. That's where the odd number originated. Time for some fun opening packs! I opened them all at once so they do show the repeats with a number in red at the top indicating how many were pulled.
The first group wasn't too bad as I pulled the archon Barthalamas, and gold foil Spitting Camel, and and epic Sorrow Harvester.
The second group was even better pulling the life splinter legendary Celestial Guardian, the archon Marlai Singariel. I also pulled two fire splinter epics with Ash Archer and Echelon. And the coolest of the bunch, in my opinion, a gold foil epic Glimmermancer!
The third group gave me legendary death card Little Sister, a life splinter archon Incessant Sage, death archon Thalgrimore and a gold foil Codex Sage.
In this batch I pulled two copies of life archon Aurelia and a couple gold foil cards: Port Guardian and Kanaaq Miner. I also pulled a couple epic cards with Lenore Nevermore and Scales Of Justice.
Next group was awesome, two legendary pulls in the bunch! First fire splinter legendary
Agniavan Salamander and neutral legendary Great Bear Druid. The neutral is a great card, I use it all the time!
Nothing too impressive in this group, but they can't all be winners...
And for the last two I did get another death splinter archon, which is good because I'm having a very hard time getting him past level 2!
So out of all these what did I manage to upgrade?
Celestial Guardian is now at max level.
Marlai Singariel is now max level.
Those were the highlights, I did combine several of the regular foils to surpass the gold level cards I had been using. Those gold cards are in cool down, but once that is done they will be going up for sale as I will no longer be using them. The funds I earn can be used towards buying more archon cards to work on my death archon and fire archon to get them up to max level.
I have made a lot of progress in a short amount of time in Frontier Mode. I have made some modest investments, but not very much as the cards really aren't all that expensive. I also managed to place number six on the leaderboard for last season, not too shabby if I say so myself! However, my years of playing Splinterlands made that possible, I think as a newbie it would be hard to achieve. But anything is possible!

I see everybody who discusses this say long term they have lost. Why do people still play? Doesn’t look like it’s worth it. As this crypto is down 99%. Along with much of the games assets.
I sold off most of my cards ages ago. What I like about Frontier is that the cards come free to start out, and card packs cost about a dime. It's not a big investment like the $4 card packs, and I got burned on Chaos packs. I only recently started playing again because it's fun, and most importantly inexpensive!

So the foundation packs are the ones you get for free?
Once you are in Gold in Frontier Mode you can win three free packs a day. It's actually pretty sweet. Plus they sell for just over ten cents a pack, so they aren't expensive to buy either. It's a lot cheaper than buying up packs at four dollars a pop!
Oh, that is cool. Is Frontier the new set that recently dropped? I get them mixed up. I'm still thinking Conclave.

Winning gets tough once you get higher level cards. I find it takes a lot of concentration to take on some of those better players and the rulesets sometimes make it impossible to win. Frontier packs are usually cheap, that's why I don't mind buying them up every now and again. Plus in gold I win three free packs a day!
