Best regards Splinterlovers 💚

I’ve wanted to write this post for a while now. The truth is that “Peakmonsters” is one of the most comprehensive platforms in the “Splinterlands” ecosystem. Basically, here you’ll find everything you need to stay up to date on absolutely everything related to the game, the marketplace, rentals, statistics, proposals, and much more. But today I want to focus on something very specific: the card market and all the benefits it offers.

This post won't be very practical, but I will explain how the market actually works through "Peakmonsters," which will help you understand how it operates, as well as how to take advantage of it, because believe me when I say that it’s 100 times better to make all your transactions here than directly through the game, since the “Peakmonsters” platform has very useful advanced features that could help you save money when buying cards.

So, now that everything is clear, I hope you learn a lot from this post. Also, if for any reason you still have questions, feel free to leave a comment and I’ll be happy to answer them. By the way, this won’t be the only part of this post—I’ll write a second one explaining in more practical terms how to use the tools:

Overview of the “Peakmonsters” Market

For those who aren't familiar with it, the Peakmonsters marketplace lets you trade all in-game assets—basically cards, lands, and other items. The difference is that we can access them in a much more dynamic way than in the official game, but it works just like any other marketplace: all rarities, all editions, their cards, etc., are available. Plus, you can buy with DEC and credits, just like on the official marketplace.

It works in this simple way, but where does its full potential really lie?

The potential lies in the filters the platform offers us to help us save as much as possible, since every player’s goal is to save as much as they can; ultimately, money management in a game where every asset has value is essential to avoid losses in a highly volatile ecosystem. With that in mind, much of what I like most about this platform, as I mentioned earlier, are those filters, which are as follows:

  • Sort by price: There are countless filters when it comes to comparing prices; in fact, it would take an entire post just to explain each one, since there are at least 14 or 15 ways to filter by price, trend, market, how much has been spent on a card, and so on. However, even with just the most basic filters, we have a significant advantage, as they allow us to see which card is actually the cheapest.

For example, to highlight a couple of them—which are among the most commonly used and that players tend to pay close attention to—they are as follows:

  • Price (asc/desc): This filter sorts by the total price of the menu.

  • Price BCX (asc/desc): I’d say this is one of the most important filters to consider, since it lets you see which card offers the best value per base card copy (BCX) it contains. To be more specific, BCX refers to the number of copies of a card, which varies depending on its rarity, and by looking at the lowest price per BCX, you can spot discounts that you’d never be able to clearly see using the first filter alone.

Data visualization by each “Chart”

To help you get familiar with this, each card on the market highlights three key elements; these are:

  • High Bid: The price of the highest active bid—a way to buy cards at a lower price through a sort of auction; in fact, if you want to buy cards at a lower price, we recommend using the "Bids" section on "Peakmonsters" to do so.

  • Market Value (Trend): A percentage comparison that shows you whether the current price is above or below the recent market trend (e.g., -99% or +12%). It’s a pretty good visual indicator, since you can see the current trend of the chart at a glance—basically, buy when it’s negative and sell when it’s positive.

  • Low Buy/ per BCX: It shows you the lowest total price followed by the price per BCX (e.g., $0.010 / $0.001). This way, you can see what the filters are showing.

Note: With all of this, we’ve covered the basics of the filters everyone should know in “Peakmonsters.” You now have plenty of information on how to get cards much more cheaply than you used to on the official marketplace. However, there’s still one thing missing, because my previous explanation might not have been clear enough: the difference between prices and BCX.

The Difference Between Prices and the BCX Concept

To understand this, it’s essential to know that a “Splinterlands” card consists of a copy of itself, which is necessary for leveling up; this is known as BCX, and that’s where the concept comes from. However, there are still a few other concepts to cover, which are:

  • Why does the price vary by level? For example, a Level 2 card contains more BCX than a Level 1 card. This means that sometimes buying a high-level card is cheaper than buying many copies of those same cards at Level 1, since the price per BCX is likely to be much lower for a card higher than Level 1.

  • Price calculation by BCX: This is calculated by dividing the total price by the number of BCX in the card. To put it another way, if a card worth 5 BCX costs $0.05, its price per BCX would be $0.01.

  • Additional factors: The edition plays a big role in the price, but the goal for all of us—myself included—is that editions with lower print runs tend to be the most expensive, just like older editions, which share that characteristic. Furthermore, rarity also influences their base value.

Conclusion

I hope this helps you get started with “Peakmonsters,” though there’s still a lot more to explore. In fact, I’d like to give a more hands-on demonstration of how it works and the different filters available. If you have any questions, feel free to leave a comment—I’ll cover the next parts in upcoming posts.
