How do Exemplars work in Splinterlands?

Best regards Splinterlovers đź’š

I’ve been wanting to write a post on this topic for a while now, because “Exemplars” are an incredibly innovative idea that I’ve personally only seen in “Splinterlands”—they let you create a personalized “Avatar” in the game, something that all players in the ecosystem have been asking for for years. The truth is that it goes beyond a simple “Avatar,” and you’ll discover that as you read this post—of course, for those who don’t already know, since this has been up and running for about 6 months now.

So, in this post, I want to explain how the system works, how you can improve and level up your character, and other details like that; what resources you need to level up; and some other aspects everyone should know if you want to build your avatar or Exemplar. In future posts, I’ll likely share strategies for leveling up as quickly as possible, so stay tuned.

Meanwhile, if you want to learn everything—or at least most of what there is to know—about the “Exemplars,” stick around until the end of this post:

How does the Exemplars System work?

Exemplars are basically “Avatars” that players can customize to their liking, since you can build them from scratch. They’ll serve as your decentralized identity within the ecosystem, which is incredible—because that’s what every player would want in any game. But let’s take a look at the aspects and/or elements that make up the “Exemplars” ecosystem:

Creating Your Avatar

  • Creation and Customization: This is where “Avatars” come to life, since Splinterlands uses a tool that lets you customize your avatar from scratch, choosing your race, body type, facial features, hair, nose, lips, eyes, etc.—much like in an RPG. You can also choose the clothing and accessories you want, so you can make your avatar completely unique.

  • From Avatar to Card: The incredible thing about all this is that you don’t just have your “Avatar” that you identify with; however, it doesn’t end there, since you’re also an “Exemplar”—which is essentially a card version built from your avatar. So, far from being just a character that represents you in the game, you’re now another card you can use on the battlefield and customize with whatever stats you want.

  • Flexibility: One great feature that offers flexibility and versatility is that, if at any time you want to change your physical features, race, etc., you can do so using the “Polymorph Potion,” which will allow you to change everything I mentioned earlier.

NOTE: Once you’ve completed your “Avatar,” you essentially have the design and creation that will also serve as your “Exemplar” on the battlefield. So, the next step is to edit what will become your “Exemplar,” and this is where you’ll be able to customize many aspects of your own in-game card. However, I’ll explain this in more detail in the next section of this post, so keep reading and pay close attention.

How Your “Exemplar” Works and the Power of GLINT to Forge It

After completing your “Avatar,” the next step is to customize your “Exemplar,” which is your card. But here’s something everyone should know: you start at the lowest level—which makes perfect sense—that is, at level 1. However, you can progress so far that your “Exemplar” can reach a maximum of 200 levels, but I imagine you’re wondering, “What do you need to level up?” Well, keep reading:

The Ultimate Resource (GLINT) + Exemplar

  • Leveling Up: The only way to level up your Exemplar is by using GLINT, which is why I call it the “master resource.” There are several ways to obtain GLINT, but I won’t go into detail about how to get it in this post because I’ve already explained it a long time ago. However, the main way is to play battles in “Modern and Wild.”

  • Point Allocation: Every time you level up using your GLINTS, you earn points that you can spend and/or allocate to your base stats, such as Health, Speed, Shield, and Attacks (including melee, ranged, and magic). You can also adjust your card’s mana cost, which can make it more versatile on the battlefield, and of course customize your abilities, unlocking up to 5 slots where you can define your playstyle based on the combination of abilities you assign to your Exemplar.

  • Experimentation: One great thing you can do is experiment with various combinations of both stats and skills, and if you don’t like them, you can reset your points for free up to 10 times—so you have up to 10 attempts to get the combination you want for your Exemplar. If you use up your 10 attempts and still want to change it, you’ll need an “item” called “Capacity Flux” to try out new strategies—which means you’ll have to buy it.

What benefits and value do both your Avatar and the Exemplar offer?

  • Visual Prestige: This is the main feature, where you can build your avatar and Exemplar until they reach the maximum level with everything you can equip; therefore, the higher your level, the more visual prestige you’ll have.

  • Progress Earned, Not Bought: This is something incredible that I have to highlight, because the progress reflected by your Avatar and/or Exemplar is tied to what you’ve achieved in the game over time—it’s essentially a visual representation of everything you’ve built over the years within the Splinterlands ecosystem.

  • Unique Card: Basically, this is about having a card that no one else has, since you build it however you like, with the stats and abilities you want, and it’s exclusive to you.

Conclusion

That's everything you need to know about Exemplars and how they work. They're undoubtedly amazing—something no other game has—and they're truly creative, encouraging players to build their profiles. But that's not all; in a future post, I'll likely be sharing strategies to help you level up your Exemplar faster.
