In Splinterlands there are some battles that are very confusing in terms of monster selection especially low mana battles where half of your total mana cost is used on the summoner and you can only select one or two monsters. This makes the battle very confusing.
In todays 14 mana battle there was a very interesting ruleset. As you can see, Collateral Damage and Counterspell were part of this battle.
Always remember to keep the battle rulesets in mind while selecting your monsters. Make your strategy according to them and position your monsters accordingly. This can improve your winning chances significantly. That is why understanding the rulesets before the battle is very important.
In this battle the Collateral Damage ruleset was active. This means all units gain the Reckless ability. Whenever your monster attacks successfully, an adjacent allied unit also takes 1 damage. This means your friendly units can also be affected by your attacks.
In simple words if your attacking monster has an allied monster next to it that allied monster can receive 1 damage after every successful attack. Because of this your lineup should not place weak monsters near the front line. Since most attacks come from the front line, a low health monster near it can be eliminated quickly.

The second ruleset was Counterspell. In this ruleset all units gain Magic Reflect. This means any magic attacker receives reflected magic damage whenever it attacks.
The strategic tip here is to avoid selecting too many magic monsters. If you do select them make sure they have enough health and protection.
Since this was a low mana battle, Collateral Damage did not have a huge impact because I only had the opportunity to select one monster. In medium and high mana battles where you can select more monsters the effect of Collateral Damage becomes much greater.
Keeping these two rulesets in mind I selected my monster carefully. I avoided magic monsters because of Counterspell and preferred a ranged attacker that had good armor and health.

In this 14 mana battle I selected Frost Guard Warrior with my Archon. It is a ranged attacker.
If I talk about its stats and abilities its mana cost is 8 which is more suitable for meid to high battles. However I did not have better cards available so I had to choose this card.
The good thing about this card is its strong armor and health. At level 1 it has 2 armor which continuously protects its health. It can absorb melee and ranged attacks quite well.
It also has 4 health which is enough for low mana battles. Its speed is 2 which helps it attack effectively and sometimes causes enemy attacks to miss. Since it is a ranged attacker it deals 2 ranged damage to the enemy every round.

On the other side my opponent also selected a ranged attacker with their Archon. However that monster only had 3 health and no armor.
Because my monster selection was better and I selected a monster with armor I achieved a great victory in this battle.
This was today's interesting battle including its rulesets, gameplay and my strategy. The strategy worked very well and helped me secure an excellent win.
What do you people think about FrostGuard Warrior? Do you have this card in your decks?? Will be glad to see your answers in the comment section.
