DIY: DESIGNING MY OWN CONTENT CORNER AND TURNING MY SHOP WALL INTO A CREATIVE FEATURE

Hey lovelies ❤️
It's your favorite girl @debbie-ese 😍
Welcome to my blog 🤗

In this post I will be walking you through the process of giving my workspace a face-lift especially the area where I will be taking photographs and videos for my business. I have had it in mind for some months to create an area in my shop where I can take aesthetically pleasing pictures of my work to share on my blog and social media.

However, I have had to hold back on it due to financial constraints. I have made my findings from the people that will make the digital signage, frames and painting, and it was quite too much for me (at that time). Well, in the end I had to result to a DIY.

So, I decided I was going to do it myself and I begin to make enquiries about all I will need. First and foremost, I ordered for 3D acrylic letters wall stickers that I will use to write my business name on the wall. The acrylic letters are mostly in black and gold, so I opted for the gold color. Also, the fonts are in 20cm and 10cm, normal fonts and italics. I choosed the 20cm for the first letters of my business name and the 10cm for the remaining letters. I also choose a gold scissors sticker as well which I believe will elevate the design.

Next, I and my husband went to a timber shade where planks, plywood boards, and other carpentry items are sold to purchase a plywood board that will be used for my design. I bought an ½inch plywood board which cost about #18,000. Next, I made a sketch of the design I wanted on the board so that I can take it to where it will be traced out. I made quite a number of sketches before I finally got the one I feel was the best. Afterwards, I got someone to help me move it to where it will be traced out using a g-saw. The process was done within few minutes and I was amazed at how neat the saw traced out the marked lines. This was my first time seeing a wood carved with such a tool and I was thrilled.

Next, I needed some planks that I will nail on the (wooden) demaraction in my shop first before attaching the plywood board. These planks are needed for two reasons, first, I will be putting some led lights into the space between the (wooden) demarcation and the plywood board, so the planks will give that room. Secondly, if the plywood board is nailed directly to the wall it will not be attractive as much as it is supposed to be. The planks are not expected to be too thick and heavy so that it will be easy to nail them. So, I opted for three light weight planks that were cut into about eight pieces, four for the length and four for the breadth.

Next, the real work began few hours we got home after we were well rested. We begin to measure the exact point we would love the plywood board to be placed using my tailoring tape and charcoal. Then, when the exact points have been duly marked ny husband started nailing the planks to the wooden dermacated area where we have chosen for the design. It wasn't as easy as we had thought but we were able to do it effectively.

After that step was successfully completed we started using nails to attach the carved plywood board to the planks. This step needed some sort of extra expertise to ensure that they are well aligned.

Then, the next thing was to paint the whole area white. So, I bought some white satin paint and roller. The painting was done the next day because we were very tired after the whole timber session drama and the one we did inside the shop. The painting process took up to an hour to be completed. We had to coat the surfaces multiple times to enable the white paint overshadow the color underneath.

Now that the painting is all set I'm looking forward to the delivery of the 3D acrylic letter wall stickers that I ordered. Once it is delivered all I need is to place them in designated area in the middle.

Thanks for reading and see you in my next one.
