One of Life's Less Talked About Curved Balls: Rich But Stingy Parents

I'll like to believe that this is less talked about because it is rare. It is a fact that it is rare but it's not certain whether it is as rare as people seem to think it is. Hopefully it is as rare as it seems. Hopefully. Hopefully it is so rare that it's rarity is the reason why it is hardly spoken about and not other reasons like shame, forgiveness, etc.

I'm hoping it is that rare because it is actually one of the worst things to ever exist. It is a very brutal curve ball.

Especially this one strain of stingy rich parents.

The Worst Strain

Some people's stinginess can make them have money but live in a messed up part of town, in a messed up house, and their children would go to cheap poor schools, wear cheap poor clothes, and seem like every day poor folks. And the children would probably not know that their parents are rich. If you ask me this is the best kind of stingy rich parents.

Stay with me.

The other kind of stingy rich parents are the ones that even though they're stingy they have a certain amount of ego and selfishness. They at least live in a better part of town, a good enough house, a good enough car or cars, send their children to good enough schools, etc. And the public views them as okay folks. But the stinginess shows in other ways.

Food is never enough at home. The children get no luxuries. They don't get toys, good phones, good home appliances, games, lessons for skills, many good clothes, books and resources to better themselves, etc.

This is the worst sort of stingy rich parents because the children grow up and compare their situation with the poor folks they see and they don't consider themselves poor. They see that they have a good enough house and all the other good enough things mentioned above.

So they think their parents are well to do and it doesn't become clear to them the fight to get out of poverty and better themselves that is waiting for them in the future.

Let me slow down a little to clarify that these types of parents exist. From my experience as a curious sociology enthusiast I've uncovered this. I make this clarification because I've also found that people who haven't experienced or seen it find it incredulous to accept that there are parents like this. It's usually mind boggling to them and it usually feels like fiction. If you're already feeling like that as you read this then you are the exhibit in support of the point.

🤣🤣

So, continuing:

When you have that worst strain of stingy rich parents you don't realize how much fight you have to do against poverty, you're quite relaxed. As a child growing up you think you are in a good position, things are provided for you but not in abundance nor in luxury but they are provided. You have quite some 'good enoughs', you're enrolled in a good enough school, so you think your parents would hold you down and send you through school and you'll at least be armed with a good education to start life with.

The major point is you're expecting certain necessary things to come from them, and that is your undoing.

A child from a poor home or from the other better strain of stingy rich parents mentioned above is not expecting anything from their parents because in their minds their parents are poor and they the children have to fight out of this poverty, so they go into life ready to fight.

They take it upon themselves.

But the child from the second strain can not really do that because of the expectations. And it takes a while before they realize that they can't bank on their parents like they thought and by then it might be too late, some damage to their journeys have already been done.

Asides this they can't get the same drive that a child from a poor home gets, if they ever get that drive it's going to be way later on in life because at first when they realize they can't get what they expected from their parents they feel betrayed and heartbroken. They know their parents can afford to see them through school or other things required to start out life but their parents just won't because they're stingy.

Finding this out about your parents would break your heart more than anything and the depression/sadness would hamper your drive. You'd have more anger and resentment for your parents than you have the drive to fight for yourself and do it on your own.

The way this usually plays out is in the University. Rich kids usually take that path, and the child thinking their parents are rich usually find themselves on this path. But surviving university is different.

You usually have to go far away from home and can't be eating from home so you need an allowance. You need more clothes because all of a sudden you're going out more now due to school activities. You probably need a house and money to maintain it if you're not in the school's accomodations. You'll need to fend for a lot of new needs that comes from not staying in the family house. You'll need books, etc.

All these new needs are quite a lot and you thought you were going to get it from your parents because you know they are rich, you know this is important, you may have found out they're stingy by now but because this is important you think they'll do better. But their stinginess would hit a lot of times and you'll find yourself lacking a lot of important stuff in school and before you know it your result is ugly and you'll barely graduate if you ever do.

Poorer students went prepared for things like this but not you, and always note you wouldn't find out on day 1. It takes time. And finding out leaves you with more resentment than the drive to fight.

At the end of the day you're standing there with a ruined school degree if you ever got to graduate. Either way your plans for your life is ruined and you have to start picking up the pieces.

Conclusion

Crazy crazy stuff.
