Self Care Is Not Only For Sick Days || LOH Contest #283

‎Hi Hive,

‎It’s so funny how we suddenly become very sensitive to our bodies most especially only when we're sick. We take our medications on time, we rest, we drink water, we avoid certain foods, we do everything necessary and possible to get better again.

‎In those moments, nothing really matters more than regain back our healthy life. But once we regain oir health and start feeling better again, we slowly drift back into and start to neglect. We started skipping our meals, stress ourselves unnecessarily, we avoid taking a rest as if being healthy means we don’t need to take care of ourselves anymore.

‎I have come to realized that this is something I have been guilty of too.

‎I sometimes act like my body can handle anything when I’m not sick. I stay up late, I don’t always eat om time and I push myself both physically and mentally even when I clearly knew that I'm tired.

‎It’s feel like I only remember my body exists only when it starts to complain. But lately, I have been trying to change that mindset to treat my body and my mind with care even when everything feels normal.

‎ Everyday self-care is becoming more intentional now for me as I have started to value my health more.

‎I try to start taken care of myself right from the basics, like eating properly and at the right time. And not just eating anything, but making sure I don’t skip meals, because I have noticed how easily that affects my energy and mood. Drinking enough water is another small thing I’m taking more seriously right now. Even though it might sounds simple, but it's really makes a big difference in how I feel throughout the day.

‎And rest is something I’m learning not to joke about anymore. I thought resting meant being lazy, but I now understand that rest is actually part of being productive. Giving my body enough bed rest and sleep helps me think clearer, recharge myself, regain energy, move better, and even feel more positive.

‎I try to create space for peace mentally. Sometimes that means stepping away from stress and sometimes it means just sitting silently and allowing myself to breathe and reset. I also try to reduce things that drain my energy unnecessarily, whether it’s overthinking or taking too much time on things that doesn't add value to my life.

‎Honestly, I’m not perfect at it, because there are still days I forgot, days that I slipped back into my old habits. But I’m learning that self-care is about being consistent, even in small ways and not about being perfect.

‎Because to be truthful, taking care of yourself shouldn’t only happen when something is wrong or when your body started sending signals. Intead, it should be a daily act of respect for your body and mind. After all, staying healthy is not luck bit it's as a result of how well you treat yourself when no one is watching and nothing is hurting. Even though, you have to stay discipline to do that.

‎So now I ask myself more often, if I can care for myself when I’m sick or inactive, then why not care for myself even more when I’m healthy?

Drinking water isn't a small thing. In fact, it is the most important. Unfortunately, a lot of people make light of it.

Self care shouldn't be only when we are sick, it should be our centre of focus. I'm glad you're taking the right steps towards the right direction.

Have an amazing one.

You don't need to be perfect, just keep treating your body better than any doctor would treat it. Prevention is better than cure, that adage never goes out of style.
