CELEBRATING CHILDREN AND THE WOMEN BEHIND THE JOY

Today is the 27th of May, a day that has always held a special place in my heart growing up because, over here in Nigeria, it is a day set aside to celebrate children, the Childrenโ€™s Day.

As a child, this was one of my favorite days of the year. The excitement, the joy, the celebrations, the little treats, the feeling of being seen and celebrated simply for being a child, it was always beautiful. And now that I am older, I find myself looking at this day from a completely different perspective.

Personally, I cannot talk about Childrenโ€™s Day without giving a huge shout-out to every woman out there. Only a few men may fully understand this perspective, but there is a unique kind of joy that comes with celebrating these beautiful little bundles of joy... and headaches ๐Ÿ˜…๐Ÿ’›.

Naturally, many people desire to have children, but in many homes, especially in the typical Nigerian setting, women are often the ones left to handle the bulk of the child-rearing responsibilities while the man is seen primarily as the provider. Now, I am not saying that providing financially is wrong. Not at all. Every role matters.

But on a day like this, I canโ€™t help but think about the unseen sacrifices behind the celebration.

The sleepless nights.
The endless worrying.
The emotional labor.
The patience required during tantrums.
The constant care, attention, and sacrifice that often go unnoticed.

Yes, in many homes, the man may provide most of the money, but it is often the woman who ensures that those resources are properly used which includes making sure the children are fed, clothed, cared for, comforted, and nurtured.

She remembers school schedules.
She notices when a child is unusually quiet.
She stays awake through feverish nights.
She becomes doctor, teacher, chef, counselor, referee, and comforter, sometimes all in one day.

And somehow, she still shows up the next morning and does it all over again.

That kind of strength deserves recognition.

So yes, today we celebrate children in Nigeria, and rightly so because children are blessings, joy, hope, and the future. But this year, I also choose to celebrate the women who make that joy possible every single day. The mothers, guardians, caregivers, and every woman carrying the invisible weight of nurturing children with love and resilience.

To every child in Nigeria and around the world, may your laughter never fade, may your dreams remain bright, and may you always be protected and loved. ๐Ÿ’›

And to every mother out there, whether biological, adoptive, guardian, or simply a woman showing up with love. Today, I celebrate you too.

Because behind every happy child is someone who sacrificed comfort, sleep, time, and energy to make that happiness possible.

HAPPY CHILDRENโ€™S DAY TO EVERY CHILD IN NIGERIA!๐Ÿ’›
HAPPY CHILDRENโ€™S DAY TO EVERY CHILD AROUND THE WORLD! ๐ŸŒโœจ
AND HAPPY TROPHY DAY TO EVERY AMAZING WOMAN OUT THERE, TODAY WAS ONLY POSSIBLE BECAUSE OF YOUR TIRELESS EFFORTS. ๐Ÿ†๐Ÿ’๐Ÿ’›
