To start with, I realized at some point that I was very bad with Time management. This I found out during one of the many jobs I took as a ghostwriter. I would keep putting off things until the last minute and there was always a narrow escape. It was not good, but try telling that to my young mind.
I have taken quite a number of remote jobs over the years, although I had no idea that was what it was called then, not until I came to a point of understanding. Now that I know, I look back and compare my days present at the office to days at home. I started working at 17, doing little things like operating a shop to which the shop owner could give me whatever they saw fit. Then I graduated high school and started working at a bet shop, which required my presence from 8am to 6pmβ¦
From there, I found my way out of the state I am based doing some sort of networking job in Abuja. I was never scared to work and that is very much obvious on my resume. From Abuja, I came back home and would proceed to work as a salesperson for some companies and then finally a wine shop before I finally got to know about Hive.
During this time, I would work remotely again for about six months in which mom and I would start up our own business. I had to give a glossary so I can properly explain my points.
I do not know how it is in other countries, but over here in Nigeria, you are paid by the month and you can be worked to the bone while earning peanuts. Our desperation is often used to the advantage of these employers. While being present in the office, working Sunday to Sunday, I had no time for myself. I was always burned out and as much as I looked forward to leaving the house and putting myself to use, I would always end up in a bad place, tired, frustrated and depressed.
I had no time for walks, movies or anything relaxing. I was always busy, no time for friends or family. I could do so little even when I finally registered to further my education. I would try to study in between work but that was always a problem for the bosses or I just could not concentrate.
It was hell, in a nutshell. By the time I got to know Hive, I caught up on all the fun I was missing. However, the free time became too much and I found myself slipping into the old shell of who I was.
How was I finally able to create balance?
When I got around to understanding that these things worked with systems, was when I was working for some big shot last year. I knew I had to keep afloat somehow and it was not easy not with all that was demanded of me. Last minute things did not work at all and no matter how good my best was, seemed like it was never enough.
Then I started my business and had to create a balance with Hive. That was very hard to do. Like my friend said, I am like a whirlwind and I just blow anywhere. I have not perfected this balance thing but I seem to be doing better than I was last year.
Honestly, to me working remotely is just the best. Does not mean it is easier but it is much easier to create a schedule that works and helps you especially when it comes to your personal life. You can work with systems that puts you on track and not the ones created for you that may just seem too hectic.
In conclusion, while working remotely has its benefits, if you do not understand the concept of time management and timely delivery, you may just end up doing mediocre jobs and putting too much pressure on yourself.

I love the last statement. Without time management, even being a remote worker would have lot of pressure on you. One just have to find what works best for them while creating the balance that would be suitable for them, alongside managing time judiciously.
Indeed sis. I have experienced the effects of lack of time management in my days or working remotely. So it is very important to get the way to go about it
Time management is huge in all walks of life and in all areas of business. Did you know that it is one of the nine pillars or bodies of project management?
Great that you have it all sorted, even whirlwinds need channeled in a timely manner.
Well I did not know that. I keep learning things from you old man. lol. Thank you π
No problem.
That is completely true, a normal job can provide "stability" but not peace of mind and much less time, remote work grants freedom
Yes ma'am. Stability but it burns me out. lol. So more remote for me

I also know that it can be hard to be motivated when you're at home. It's easy to put it off.
I do have to say that although I would like nothing better than to not work at all, working away from home does change my scenery and give me a little personal space. I am lucky that my employer is willing to work with me working part time. Thanks for sharing and have a lovely day!
I struggled with that. Procrastinating and then going way past the deadline. I understood this and tried to work on it. Now, I'm doing better than I did coming into this year
That is awesome! I wish you the best in your endeavors!
Wow, reading your some sort of bio impressed me. You truly are hardworking !LADY trying to change your status in life. I understand how hard it is to live in your country. I have some Nigerian friends and I read their daily stories. I can picture out their living experiences. But it's too harsh for those taking advantage of it, especially when they are Nigerians as well. No wonder why many want to step out of your country to find greener pastures.
Been doing freelancing jobs since I got home from working abroad (that inspired me to create these topics), and I can say that it is as tough as working a job outside the home. It's not easy for beginners, and some clients are as demanding as those in big companies, lol, but offer lower rates. what a joke. I even thought of going back abroad coz salary will be monthly, haha. Just wanted to try this out and I might probably give up sooner or later, lol. I often self-reflect and think about which job I truly want in do I life. maybe I'll decide later. Just need more rest for now.
You are right, might be easy to work from home, but without time management, we'll be putting more pressure on ourselves.

Thank you so much...
Nigeria is, unfortunately, being killed by Nigerians. Funny how even the boss that demanded Heaven and earth from me was a Nigerian abroad. He was paying me to do things not within my job description and was paying way less than what people I see doing are paid while requesting I give 100% each time.
I don't blame Nigerians from trying to "Japa" as we call it. That's going to look for greener pastures what's holding me is finishing school and then I'll see what kind of job I want to work as well. Funny how I'm at this stage of my life and can't decide on what path to take. lol

If you organize yourself and control your time, you can do a good job, and without a doubt working remotely has become the best option for many, especially in my country Venezuela, greetings.
In a country like ours where electricity, network and fuel issues is a problem, working remotely seems to be hard in itself.
True that. But itβs easier to manage from my experience
