Ouch, the pedal of my e-bike broke after 1200 km 🙈
Das Pedal meines E-Bikes ist nach 1200 km während der Fahrt gebrochen. Habe mega Glück gehabt, dass ich mich nicht schwer verletzt habe.
Bin auf dem Pedal gestanden, als es gebrochen ist und wollte über eine Kreuzung fahren. Beim Treten ist das rechte Pedal gebrochen und habe dadurch die Kontrolle über das Bike verloren und mich leicht am Knöchel und Knie verletzt.
Die Pedale sind eine Schwachstelle beim E-Bike, da sie aus Plastik und faltbar sind. Man kann die Pedale nämlich einklappen, um noch mehr Platz beim Transport zu sparen.
Das ist praktisch, aber der Sicherheit nicht zuträglich, was ich nun selbst feststellen musste. Der Nachteil ist, dass die Pedale dadurch nicht so robust sind, wie normale Fahrrad-Pedale. Normalerweise ist das kein Problem, wenn man mit Motorunterstützung fährt und nur leicht treten muss.
Wenn man allerdings auf den Pedalen steht und härter tretet, können die faltbaren Pedale leider brechen, was für jeden Fahrradfahrer eine Horrorvorstellung ist.
Empfehle daher faltbaren Plastik-Pedale sofort nach der Anschaffung gegen robuste Mountainbike-Pedale aus Metall zu wechseln, was ich jetzt machen werde.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Ist euch schon einmal ein Pedal beim Radfahren gebrochen?

The pedal of my e-bike broke after 1200 km while I was riding. I was extremely lucky that I didn't injure myself seriously.
I was standing on the pedal when it broke and wanted to ride through a crossing. While pedaling, the right pedal broke and I lost control of the bike and slightly injured my ankle and knee.
The pedals are a weak point on an e-bike as they are made of plastic and are foldable. You can fold the pedals to save even more space during transportation.
This is practical, but not conducive to safety, as I have now found out for myself. The disadvantage is that the pedals are not as robust as normal bicycle pedals. Normally, this is not a problem if you are riding with motor assistance and only have to pedal lightly.
However, if you stand on the pedals and pedal harder, the foldable pedals can unfortunately break, which is a nightmare for any cyclist.
I therefore recommend replacing foldable plastic pedals with robust metal mountain bike pedals as soon as you buy them, which is what I'm going to do now.

Zum Glück ist dir nichts gross passiert :-) Achtung. Der Antriebsriemen sieht auch so aus, dass er nicht für die Ewigkeit gemacht ist:-)
I never used a e-bike just normal bikes so if it breaks it's not a big deal

Nö, bislang ist immer noch alles gut gegangen. Habe jetzt ca. 2.500 km auf meinem runter.
Nach 1200km??
Dann ist ja ein Garantiefall...
Wichtig ist das es nicht zu einem größeren Unfall gekommen ist.

It's never happened to me, but I've never had an electric bike either.
Mir war mal als Kind leider es ganz abgebrochen, also mit dem wo es dran ist, k.a. Wie das heißt, mein Vater hatte es damals wieder angeschweißt, was aber leider auch immer wieder abgebrochen war.
War echt ärgerlich. Bin da aber auch viel Fahrrad gefahren als Kind.
I don't have one and don't plan on it either. But not being able to stand and petal hard is a real down side. I'm glad to hear you didn't get hurt because a fall could be very nasty if you were going fast. I hope the replacement holds up better!

Schade, das ist aber sehr bald. Die Qualität von sowas hat ordentlich nachgelassen. Ich kann mich an einen ähnlichen Vorfall erinnern bei meinem Fahrrad da hatte ich aber schon mehr km oben. Trotzdem ist sowas eigentlich etwas das nicht so leicht kaputt gehen sollte.
Ist mir tatsächlich mit einem Metallpedal auch schon passiert 🫣
Oh wirklich, heftig 🙈 eigentlich sollten die Teile viel aushalten, da auf den Pedalen eine enorme Kraftübertragung ausgeübt wird und ein Versagen auch lebensgefährlich ist.

Then I busted it again 3 - 4 years later at a different location, and thus ending my biking routine.
My roommate begged me to cave in and get a car.

I have never broken a pedal because I don't bike much at all. It sounds like a pain, but I guess safety is better than convivence.
I see the pedal issue as a manufacturer's error. It appears the manufacturer didn't take the situation into consideration when designing the bike, and I don't think it's late for that to be corrected. I wish the correction is made now, for subsequent productions, without further delay, in the interest of users.
Agree, a bike definitely needs robust pedals, that dont brake easily, safety critical part, because needed for the stability of the driver.
