Egg shortage in the EU, how is the situation in your grocery store? Have you noticed the shortage?
Ist euch auch aufgefallen, dass es seit einigen Wochen eine leichte Eier-Knappheit in den SupermĂ€rkten gibt? Es gibt zum GlĂŒck keinen echten Mangel, aber die Regale sind weniger gut gefĂŒllt als frĂŒher. Punktuell kommt es auch zu EngpĂ€ssen.
Grund ist die Vogelgrippe im Herbst 2024, die Legehennen besonders trifft, da ganze Farmen engschlĂ€fert werden mĂŒssen, um die Ausbreitung zu verhindern.
Die Gastronomie muss dann teilweise zu Freiland und Bioeiern zurĂŒckgreifen, die dann ebenfalls knapp werden.
Dazu kommt noch der Bedarf fĂŒr den Winter-Tourismus, bis Ostern sollte sich die Lage aber wieder normalisieren.
Was sagt ihr dazu? Wie ist die Situation bei euch in den SupermÀrkten?

Have you also noticed that there has been a slight shortage of eggs in the supermarkets for a few weeks now? Fortunately, there is no real shortage, but the shelves are less well stocked than before. There are also occasional shortages.
The reason for this is the bird flu in the fall of 2024, which particularly affects laying hens, as entire farms have to be closed down to prevent the spread.
Some restaurants will then have to resort to free-range and organic eggs, which also become scarce.
In addition, there is the demand for winter tourism, but the situation should return to normal by Easter.

I haven't noticed much of an egg shortage in Estonia. I hope the shortage doesn't catch up here đŹ

I haven't really, and I have to admit I don't even check prices much - I simply buy the good things rather than the cheap ones (and Czech supermarkets are stocked with poor food, since we love buying the cheapest option, and don't care about quality much).
Everything is fine here. We have plenty of balls.

Ich habe fast nichts dergleichen bemerkt. Nur einmal war bei Kaufland das ganze Eierregal leer. Das hielt aber glĂŒcklicherweise nicht lange an. Ich esse Eier nĂ€mlich sehr gerne.
Wir kaufen die Eier direkt beim Erzeuger. Das ist das Schöne am Landleben. Ab FrĂŒhjahr wollen wir auch wieder ein paar HĂŒhner kaufen und selber produzieren.

Ist bei uns in Niedersachsen auch der Fall. Da ich sehr lÀndlich wohne, habe ich sogar im privaten Umfeld einige betroffene Landwirte und die eröffnen noch einen zweiten Blickwinkel.
Durch die Vogelgrippe werden auch zukĂŒnftig die Eierpreise weiter steigen, denn die Versicherungen ziehen gerade ihre PrĂ€mien an um dieses Risiko zukĂŒnftig noch zu versichern. Das wird natĂŒrlich auf den Eierpreis draufgeschlagen.
Bin gespannt was sechs Eier im nĂ€chsten FrĂŒhling kosten werden.

Might have to mention, though, that in my regular supermarket the shelves never were stocked well. Especially free-range and organic eggs are sold out quite often and not just since last fall.

Yup. egg shortage/scare.. here there is always a limit now.. like only 2 dozen eggs per customer. đđ€
Eggs have been an issue in the US for a while. Costco limits eggs and if you don't show up when it opens, you can't even buy any.
