Though in most of my blog posts, I mainly write about Crypto and projects built on blockchain technology, if you are a daily reader of my blogs, then you know that I am a foodie and always look for a chance to visit new restaurants or food stalls and try new dishes. As I live in the city now with my wife, whenever we get an off day or a holiday and want to enjoy the day together, most of the time we end up choosing to go on a voyage to discover new foods and dishes and roam around the city in search for food gems. But for the last couple of months, we had to put a break on our food voyage because of the extreme summer we are having this year. Because of the constant heatwaves and extreme hotness which we have been bearing since the start of summer, we also had to change our diet and stop eating outside junk foods or even making any fast or oily food at home. We were literally eating plain rice or flatbreads with oil and spices-free dishes so that we didn't end up getting ill.
But just some days ago, when the rain finally visited us and wet the earth a little. We could not resist anymore and decided to go on a dinner date together, finally after a long time. To make this day even more memorable, we decided to visit a famous themed restaurant closer to our apartment. The restaurant is named ‘Vuter Raja Dilo Bor’ and in English, it would be called - The King of Ghosts Gives Wishes. It is a famous Authentic Bengali cuisine where they serve only dishes related to Bengali culture.
Now, let me first talk a little about the theme itself. The theme is taken from a classic film of the same name written and directed by Satyajit Ray, a world-famous Writer, film director and versatile genius. He was the first Indian to receive an Academy Award in 1992 for his revolutionary work in films not to mention he was one of the main founding fathers of Indian cinema. If you are a film enthusiast then you should really read about this person and watch some of his iconic creations like ‘Pather Panchali’ or ‘Sonal Kella’ or ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ on which this restaurant was themed.
The restaurant has 2 floors and each of them has an entirely different interior design the ground floor theme is built upon the ‘Goopy Gyne Bagha Byne’ film and gives an old village-like environment with some spookiness to give it a ghostly vibe. On the first floor, the theme is related to a King’s palace which is taken from another legendary film of Satyajit Ray’s ‘Hirok Rajar Deshe’ film, which is actually the third film of the series. Last year, we enjoyed the village theme so this time, we chose to enter the Palace theme floor and as you can see from the photos I shared, it is a very Royal and bright room with pretty good light work and decorations. We ordered 2 Bengali thali (combo) and there were a lot of different items including Chicken, Mutton, Sea fish and Prawns along with vegetable dishes.
Though we literally got mesmerized by the theme & decorations and the overall vibe, I have to admit the food quality was not that good this time. Last time when we went there the quality was much better but this time, they just ruined our mood, or we were just over excited about going out after a long period of time and they could not meet our expectations. But the behavior of waiters and staff members were very friendly and the service time was also fast enough that you would not have to wait much longer with cravings in your belly. So, it was an okay experience for us and I would definitely give them one more chance and may visit again when the Rainy season visits us.
