Have you ever noticed someone who suddenly becomes unable to do a simple task when it's their turn to take responsibility? They make mistakes, ask too many questions, or do the job so poorly that someone else has to do it for them. I think this is a good example of weaponized incompetence.
In my opinion, weaponized incompetence is a way of avoiding responsibility by pretending that you don't know how to do something. It can happen anywhere, whether at home, in the workplace, or even among friends.
I can relate to this topic through my own family life. With a daughter like Isra, there are always little responsibilities around the house. Sometimes I take care of her morning routine, change her clothes, get her ready, and take her outside. My wife and I share these responsibilities because we both understand that looking after a child is not one person's job alone. There are days when one of us is tired or busy, so the other steps in. I believe this is how a family should work. Instead of making excuses, we should support each other.
Of course, imagine if one of us started saying, "I don't know how to change her clothes" or "I cannot handle her because she always makes a mess." If that became a regular excuse just to avoid responsibility, it would be unfair to the other person.
I believe we all have seen this behavior at some point. Some people use it to avoid household responsibilities, while others use it at work to escape difficult tasks. Eventually, the same people around them have to carry the extra burden.
When I notice someone doing this, I don't think arguing is always the best solution. I prefer to explain the responsibility clearly and give them a fair chance to complete the task. If they keep making excuses, I believe it's important to set boundaries instead of doing everything for them.
Of course, nobody is perfect. We all make mistakes, and sometimes we genuinely don't know how to do something. Asking for help is completely normal. But deliberately pretending to be incapable just to escape responsibility is different.
I think we should help each other, share responsibilities, and learn new things instead of finding excuses. Life becomes much easier when everyone does their fair share.
Being unable to do something is not a weakness, but pretending to be unable just to avoid responsibility is a habit worth changing.
