Everybody knows physical exercise is important, but does everyone treat it like it is? Why do you think that is? Finances? Lack of time? Uninterest in staying fit and healthy? Could be a number of things.
If you ask me, there are two types of people who love staying fit – the fanatics that love the idea of staying fit, and Team B, who love doing the work that results in staying fit itself. I think I belong more to the former, and so are the majority of people, the subtle difference, I reckon, is that the majority of people lack the self-awareness (or maybe the sincerity) to realize or acknowledge that they’re like this. What is common between the two groups though is a shared understanding that physical activity is of great benefit to health. But perhaps, these benefits are different for the two groups, and that is what accounts for their different attitudes towards it.
A lot of people I know do physical exercise for physical results – to lean up, bulk up, or in the case of ladies, to train certain…muscles. If you know what I mean.🙂 But unlike many people, one of the biggest motivations to exercise for me has been a declining mental health. My mind has a thing for using boredom in the most productive ways. Shower time is one of the boring times, which explains why I am Einstein-smart in the shower. Physical exercise also happens to be one of said boring times for me where I’m actively using strength instead of my brain, so I’m usually able to process my thoughts and emotions better. Aside that, the immediate post-workout feel good satisfaction hits harder than crack! So for me, physical exercise is usually a means to improving my mental health, but I of course still get the physical benefits as a plus.
The problem with my motivation to exercise is that when I feel better (and I usually do, not long after I start), I stop exercising again. That obviously does not mean I don’t appreciate the physical benefits of exercising. It just seems that I don’t find any of the physical benefits of exercise motivating enough to keep the consistency. Every now and then, I’ve entertained the thoughts of bulking up, but the reality that bulking up doesn’t just require working out, but also eating well checks me right back to the reality that I am but a poor man.😂
Oh I should probably mention that by “exercise” or “physical exercise”, I’ve mostly meant working out. I exercise on a daily since I ride my legs almost everywhere I go. If you ride your legs as well like me, you know that that is more than enough exercise to keep you healthy.😂 I also ocassionally play football or go swimming, so those count too. However, if you’re looking for more targeted physical results, you likely won’t get them just from walking, and that’s where equally more targeted physical exercises like gym workouts come into play.
