POULTRY FARM AND DEMAND AND SUPPLY OF DRESSED CHICKEN IN ILORIN METROPOLIS.

I want to use this medium to greet all great Hivers. How has been your day so far, hope you are all doing good? I'm positive minded that it's all well and fine.

If you are a poultry farmer in Ilorin currently, I bet in the last couple of weeks, it hasn't been rosy for poultry farmers considering or on the part that to lay off or sell your birds after they have reached to harvest has been difficult. I have always said it that it's difficult thing to do to raise broiler birds, while it's more difficult considering the market aspect. A lot of things have been the reasons behind why it has been difficult of late to find customers to up these riped birds for sales.

THE SITUATION ON GROUND CONCERNING DRESSED BROILER BIRDS DEMAND AND SUPPLY

When the issue on difficulty to lay off these started, lot of news and rumours were flittering around in Town why this is happening. There was rumour that a lot of people are into the Poultry farm business which allows the supply to be more the demand. Though it's part but not the major reason.

Not until recently that I keenly made my research what could be the cause of the set back. We discovered that the reason is majorly down to the fact that it's due to the reopened of Idi-Iroko border which has allowed for import of food stuff from neighboring countries most especially from Coutonu, Benin republic.

Furthermore, to buttress more on the point, news has it that majority of big farms that are based in Ilorin and Ibadan that usually direct their chicken products to Lagos State has been reduced because Retailers and wholesalers in Lagos have now prefer or fall back to getting these dressed chicken from neighboring countries. In lieu of this, this has made big farmers in Ibadan and Ilorin to direct their chicken product to supply internally.

Moreso, because these big Farm rear birds in large quantity, they fall back to supplying the dressed chicken at a very low price which has affected us we the small poultry Farmers. So right now,these big farms have no option than to penetrate local market that we the smaller farmers are exploiting. The last birds I reared was a typical example, I reared birds from day old to 10 weeks without being able to supply any. Finally, the worst thing now is we don't have a clue when this will come back to normal.
