Recently, I decided to combine two different passions: homesteading and garlic cultivation, and it was an experience full of benefits and fun. When I thought about homesteading, I wanted to start a small project at home that would help me rely more on myself in producing food and consuming fresh produce.
Homesteading is a lifestyle based on growing food at home and taking care of it completely, which makes you feel closer to nature. I started my journey with homesteading by growing some simple plants such as herbs and vegetables, and garlic was the first choice I decided to grow. I wanted something easy but at the same time beneficial to food. And indeed, garlic was the perfect choice!
What I discovered is that garlic is one of the plants that does not require a lot of effort to grow. Garlic grows excellently even in water, meaning you can plant it in a small pot filled with water and let it grow without the need for soil. All you have to do is separate the garlic cloves from each other and plant them in the water, and you will see the roots start to appear quickly. Also, garlic does not need daily care, just change the water from time to time and monitor it and it will start to grow excellently.
One of the most important things I noticed after I started growing garlic at home is the fresh and distinctive flavor it adds to food. When I used fresh garlic that I grew myself in my dishes, I felt a big difference in the taste compared to ready-made garlic bought from the market. The taste was stronger and fresher, and this added a wonderful flavor to dishes that depend on garlic such as soup, salads, or even traditional Egyptian dishes such as fattoush and baba ghanouj.
Through my experience with homesteading and garlic cultivation, I was able to add a new touch to my daily life, and I learned how to benefit from the great advantages of home cultivation. Garlic was one of the easy plants that anyone can grow at home, even if you are a beginner. The result was priceless in terms of taste and quality.
If you also want to try garlic cultivation at home, try it! You will notice the big difference in your food, and you will enjoy an atmosphere of personal production that makes you feel proud and accomplished.
