A while ago, I decided to try homesteading, and I was very excited about the idea of agriculture and selfsufficiency. I started with simple steps, and growing eggplant was one of the first experiences I entered, and it was really an experience full of lessons and surprises.
First step: Choosing seeds and soil
When I decided to plant eggplant, I thought about choosing the right type for my climate. I chose good seeds, and focused on preparing the soil so that it was rich in nutrients. I used organic fertilizer to keep the planting 100% natural, and I tried to keep the soil balanced between clay and sand so that drainage would be good and there would be no problems with the roots.
Planting and caring for plants
After I planted it, I watched them eagerly almost every day and waited for the seedlings to appear. Eggplant needs a lot of sun, so I made sure that it was in a place where it got enough light. With time, the plants started to grow, and here the challenges began! Insects were a problembut I used natural solutions like spraying water with natural soap, and planting insect repellent plants like basil next to the eggplant.
Water and Fertilization
I discovered that eggplant loves water, but it should not be too much so that the roots do not rot. I used to water it regularly, and I tried to use a drip irrigation system to save water and maintain soil moisture. Also, every two weeks I added organic fertilizer to keep the plant strong and healthy.
First Harvest: Indescribable Joy!
After months of care and follow-up, it was finally harvest time! The first time I picked an eggpant from my planting, I felt incredibly happy, as if it was a small treasure emerging from the ground. The taste was different from any eggplant I had bought from the market, it was fresh and its flavor was very rich.
My journey in homesteading and growing eggplants taught me patience and perseverance, and that farming is not just about planting seeds and wataring them, but it is an experience full of challenges and rewards. very time I reap the fruits of my labor, I feel closer to nature and more independent. this exprience is just the beginning, and I still have many things I want to plant and learn! 🌱💜

The egg plant looks so vibrant and healthy! Hopefully there will be plenty more
Hello friend, the eggplant is a strong plant, it withstands climatic changes, even up to 15 days of drought because it has abundant roots, its fruits are very pleasant, the truth is that I like the eggplant, but it is a plant that attracts many pests such as like the mosquito. white, so if you are going to grow other crops like tomatoes, we can't grow eggplants because everything is contaminated by pests.
