Echoes Of The Future.

When I saw the machine, my heart skipped a beat, and I almost gave it a second thought. Maybe to not know, maybe to just keep living the way I am, but then again, I'm curious of what the future has to say, I'm curious of what these kids have to say.

For me, curiosity has always won, and it won even with this, after a little bit of going forth and coming back in my thoughts, I stepped into the already beeping machine. The machine that was to take me to the future 🫣. Trust me, I am only going there find out one single thing, and that's how/what I'm being remembered for/what people say about me.

I stepped into the machine and that was all. I doubt if I've even blinked once and boom, I'm in the future already.

"Well, I don't know much about him o, but I heard he often helps people." I heard a woman say.

"Ogini, who he help. Who said that, bia, spit it out." Another replied.

"Huhm, seems y'all don't know how proud that man is..." The one who was the oldest amongst them said, "you know you were still young then, you don't know much. I know him so well, he's so full of himself."

"I think I agree with you," the woman who owns the shop which the four of them were talking responded. "He talks too much and he's so annoying.*

I wanted to move on and listen to some other people, but I wanted these set of people to say just one good thing I did. But guess what, they didn't. None of them mentioned the various school kids I've got things for, the youngest of them all was even a benefactor, yet they shut her up and she kept mute too. Nobody talked about the various little things I did, how I came through for people, I showed up and all. Even though it was small, it shouldn't have gone unnoticed.

A man who was near them looked at them and shook his head, as I was about leaving, I heard the man asked them, "and is that all he did?"

"What did he do? I can't remember anything, other than his chochocho mouth." The oldest woman responded again.

"But you're older, and I think you should know better." The man said and left.

I felt bad, is this man supposed to leave too, does it mean he agrees with them, or he just doesn't have anything to say. I was so sad, I looked them one after the other and shouted, "that's all you people see, you didn't even see one good thing that I did." I know they can't see or hear me, but I can't just bottle it in anymore.

"So, this is how I am being remembered, despite everything." I said to myself and sighed.

I can't go further, this is enough and with that thought, I found myself back in the present day. I was sitting on the edge of my bed, thinking and pondering and what happened.

Isn't it best to start living for myself now, I thought. As I was about to lay down and think more deeply, my phone vibrated and it screen came up, it was a WhatsApp message and it read, "thank you so much for the other day sir. It meant a lot to me. I would also like to inform you, that I passed that examination you paid for."

I had to hold back the tears that has already formed in my eyes,that was so touching. But where was this in the future, I didn't find it there. I wanted to lay down and think before, but now, I thought against it. Humans will always be humans, it just better I keep being me. As humans, we tend to most times remember what suits us. As humans we tend to kind of lower the volume of good things while increasing the volumes of our flaws.

Even though I want to be remembered well, I won't do more than I'm already doing. I'm trying my best, I won't try to do more all because I want to change what's being said in the future, at the end, we humans will still only recall what we want to. And for me, I will keep doing the little I can, I won't be on a spree to change anything.
