Before Hive, I didn’t have the best Web3 knowledge. It was even worse that everywhere I turned, I saw people losing money trading cryptocurrencies. It is worth noting that two years ago, I wouldn’t have been interested to hear about anything that involved earning online.
Basically, I never believed one could earn outside the traditional office and menial jobs. Moreover, my ignorance was cemented by the Web2 experiences I have seen, where data is being burned and time wasted without having anything tangible to show. Well, from my end, I got lucky as I built some meaningful connections from my engagements there.
Consequently, seeing how active I was on Facebook, my sister, @fredaig, kept patronizing me to come on Hive. At first, I thought she wanted us to be sharing her Hive platform, but then she said something about paying to create my own blog.
While she thought that I was paying attention, all she said only made me skeptical, and my doubts grew the harder she tried to convince me. The thing was, I didn’t want my hopes dashed, and I also didn’t want to lose money.
But despite my doubts, she assured me that nobody was asking for my money. She added that all I needed to do was to replicate my Facebook activities on Hive but in a more credible manner.
Moving on, she requested for my details to open a Hive account for me, but I chickened out.
WHAT CHANGED
Fast-forward to over a year ago: my sister won a huge sum of money through the Zeely challenge, and she shared her excitement with us. Before her win, I was aware of the challenge and witnessed all her sleepless nights where she tried to complete her tasks. Truth be told, I never believed that anything tangible would come out of what she was doing then.
Heck, I even mocked her, saying she was wasting her time, as I strongly believed that the crypto space was a scam. But lo and behold, when she won that reward money from the Zeely challenge and converted it to fiat, showing me all the details, I was convinced beyond a reasonable doubt. Not only that, but I immediately realized how wrong I was about Hive all along.
From then on, I started seeing Hive differently, and it was me pestering my sister to create my own Hive blog.
So far, the journey has been great, as I have benefitted a lot from the transparency, the tutorials, and the community of people ever ready to share their knowledge and keep one updated with latest happenings in the crypto world.
In addition to my sister's guidance, I became exposed to the Web3 blockchain. Despite not having any existing knowledge of all that the blockchain entails, I was determined to learn as my sister introduced me to different frontends and saw to it that I familiarized myself with the happenings there.
From that point on, I was able to actively be involved in Inleo, Chain Chatter, and other Web3 Hive shows where I gained basic crypto knowledge.
Currently, I won’t say that I completely understand the blockchain, but at least I can pitch in one or two pieces of advice to those in need of it, and that is, “Follow who knows the road.”
Basically, the difference between those who fail and the ones who succeed is guidance and knowledge gained, which is summed up as experience.
As I reflected on my Web3 journey, I remembered aligning myself with others who took the blockchain just as seriously. I also went on to build a presence in various Discord channels. Although I was persistent, I can't help but feel that I still am not putting in enough effort, like I would love to do due to other engagements outside of the blockchain.
Thankfully, with the effort that I can put in, I’m seeing results.
Overall, I’m not much of a trader, as I’m more of a blogger, and writing is my favorite part of being part of the Hive blockchain. As a very expressive person, Hive is a place where I feel safe with my thoughts.
