A SHORT TRIP: THE ZUMA ROCK

IMG_0724.jpeg

My Saturday began with a trip. Yay!...and oh my goodness. I did love the trip and the view that came with this one but I wasn't at all prepared for it. It was sprung on me giving me no time to prepare my mind and bag.

IMG_0663.jpeg

But fortunately, my home was within reach. I quickly threw in a days' supply and hit the road with them. Hmm. I am now wondering, is this a training for when I'm running a multi-national chain of businesses? Hehehe.

IMG_0704.jpeg

The sky got darker the farther we got away from Kaduna. The destination was Maitama, Abuja. I was a bit worried that the rain would disrupt our journey and not because I was afraid - I love the rain - but for the driver's sake. A heavy downpour would mean we would have to pause the trip because driving in a heavy storm? Bad idea!

IMG_0688.jpeg

But then it cleared, thankfully, and I had not noticed until I had a picture of this beautiful landscape. Kind of reminded me of a picture I saw in @papilloncharity (sorry for the tag) post here. And I still have it as a screensaver. He has the most amazing blogs with the most beautiful stories and pictures.

IMG_0692.jpeg

Then we drove by a rice farm. At that point, I wished more than anything that this was a "ME" trip because I would have stopped to get down and get more pictures. I even saw a flight of birds but couldn't capture them because we weren't close enough.

IMG_0694.jpeg

But it was okay. I still felt very content in that moment because I was out of my house and could use my eyes to drink in places. Funny enough, I have been on this road multiple times but it always feels like the first time all over again. The goose-bumps and the overall giddy feeling I get in my chest.

IMG_0680.jpeg

Those fluffy clouds did contribute immensely to my giddiness. I have not even seen close to half of the ecstasies mother nature has to offer but I do feel grateful each time I find myself in such a position to experience such glamour.

IMG_0681.jpeg

Within hours, we had arrived at Zuba where the famous Zuma rock is situated. I had heard all sorts of stories as kid about Zuma rock. From it being alive to people living inside it, it never stopped until when I first saw it for myself which was years ago. I was scared to even approach it because I thought it would swallow me.

IMG_0711.jpeg

But then that belief died as I grew and got wiser. I have heard that there wild animals in those bushes around it but I don't know how true those rumors are. Looking up and reading about the Zuma rock, I discovered new things that I thought I'd share with you:

Well, reading further and I got to learn that there are many myths surrounding the Zuma rock. I also got to find out that the Gbagyi people resided there at some point. I honestly thought that the tribe only ever based in Kaduna. And that was not all I saw about this rock. @tengolotodo did you know? πŸ‘‡πŸΎ

Screenshot 2023-07-09 210541.jpg

At this point, I googled the Uluru rock. Never heard of it. I am really a recluse huh? Anyway, what do you think about that? It is a 'HOOGE' rock. I felt like we were ants as we drove past it during the drive back. Thankfully, before that, we were not too close and I was able to get a picture of its face. Yes. Face!

IMG_0712.jpeg

IMG_0713.jpeg

Even before reading about it, I used to think that the Zuma rock was a place for spirits. Why? The Zuma rock was on the N100 note of the Nigerian currency. Then, I was told all sorts of stories of it having a face and swallowing people. Reading about it now, I see that even the locals believed it was the home to deities and spirits. Now, it a center of attraction for tourists. I believe that I would come down to take proper pictures soon as I plan a proper visit to this site. Have you ever been to the Zuma rock? What stories have you heard?

Ah yes Uluru or Ayres rock as it was known, so your Zuma is pretty damn impressive if not nearly as well known!

I see faces all over it!

Great post and look at what you can do with that new phone now!

0E-8 BEE

Ha! I knew you’d like it a lot! I checked the pictures of the Uluru rock. It’s red sand. Or was it my eyes?

And yes. I can do a lot with new phone. 😁

Am pretty sure it is red sandstone yes, a bit like what the Kirkwall cathedral is made of in Orkney :)

0E-8 BEE

Lol. It is huge

0E-8 BEE

Very huge...am now beginning to wonder how the world's 🌍 biggest rock πŸͺ¨ will look like

0E-8 BEE

Oh, I loved, loved, loved reading this! So much! (BTW, I have been to Uluru--I used to be a tour guide and I would take groups out to the rock and walk around it and teach them about it--and it IS huge!)

You were a tour guide? This is news to me! Did you guys climb to the top of it?

Oh yes! Thank you for that reminder!

0E-8 BEE

I was a tour guide! (I have done many different jobs over the years!)

I did not climb it. Many people have but the local, indigenous (Aboriginal) people have always politely asked us not to. And I chose to respect that (despite my love for climbing things!!)

When I did my IT in Garki Abuja, my colleague visited this Zuma rock but with the stories I heard just like you, I was super scared of going close to itπŸ€¦πŸ˜‚

That sounds like a nice adventure you had . Deraa, did you take all the shots with the new phone you talked about? These shots are really beautiful 😍

0E-8 BEE

Yes o. It’s with the new phone. I finally got the phone. So more pictures.

And regarding those stories, did you know there’s a resort close to that rock? Saw it on Pinmapple. It looked so Posh and Tush. I will visit when I become a whale. Lemme relax small so they’ll chop my money.

0E-8 BEE

Hahaha πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ€£
I know, I even snapped close to the resort that day but printed the pictures instead..now I do not even know where my album is scattered. This was in the 2009..I wasn't even using a smart phone then🀦

0E-8 BEE

@deraaa when will you take me on a trip with you πŸ‘€

Awesome job @deraaa! Keep pushing yourself and you'll reach your Hive goals before you know it.

0E-8 BEE

Thank you for sharing. Heard stories that Zuma rock laughs or cries depending on which you capture.

Sure I heard about people disappearing when they attempted to search it out.

I schooled in Suleja, few of my classmates made an adventure to the rock though without school knowledge

0E-8 BEE

Did they come back?

0E-8 BEE

Sure, my classmates came back

0E-8 BEE

It’s actually my first reading an article of any kind about Zuma rock. Thank you so much @deraaa for shearing your wonderful experience with. At least I now know a little about Zuma rock.

0E-8 BEE

Hehe. My pleasure πŸ˜‡
