I Just Found Out I’m an Ambivert… and It Makes So Much Sense Now

There are times I love being around people, talking, laughing, and just feeling the energy of the moment you know, those loud moments that make you feel alive. But then, out of nowhere, I just want to be by myself, away from the noise, in my own little quiet world. For so long, I’ve struggled to explain this shift in my energy. I thought maybe I was confused or just moody. But recently, I learned something about myself that finally gave me the words I’ve been looking for: I’m an ambivert.

And to be honest, it brought me a kind of peace I didn’t even know I needed

For those who might not know, an ambivert is someone who falls between being an introvert and an extrovert. It means I can enjoy social settings, be outgoing and expressive, but I also deeply crave solitude and quiet. And the funny thing is, both sides are real, both sides are me.

It’s like living with two personalities that understand each other

Sometimes I’m the one leading the conversation, cracking jokes, and making everyone feel comfortable. Other times, I just want to be left alone with my thoughts, or go somewhere no one knows my name. And I’ve come to realize… that’s okay. I don’t have to pick a side.

This discovery made me reflect on how I’ve lived my life trying to fit into one label either being the “life of the party” or the “quiet one.” But the truth is, I’m both, and neither. I’ve stopped forcing myself to always show up when I don’t have the energy. And I no longer beat myself up for needing space after being around people.

Now I give myself permission to just be

If you’re like me, feeling like you don’t fully fit into the extrovert or introvert box, maybe you’re an ambivert too. And maybe it’s time to stop forcing yourself to be either/or. There’s a middle ground, and it’s a beautiful space to exist in.
