When Routines Become Risk!

(edited)

We all know the talks about sticking to routines and how important they're to life. No doubt, they're a key part of a productive lifestyle, bringing order, reducing stress, including helping improve mental health, plus overall well-being. However, it also comes with risks, such as being too predictable, vulnerable to exploitation, and missing out on new experiences.

Suffix to say that - routines can be a blessing and equally cause a problem.

This post is actually inspired by the valuable experience the day I visited a friend's family during the holidays. It was a day to his birthday, and during our conversation, I asked him how he was preparing for his birthday, which was coming the following day, and he said he wasn't going to celebrate it. I was a bit surprised because his birthday is usually a bash. He celebrates with his family, friends, kingsmen in the village. In fact it's usually a village affair. So I asked him why he wasn't to do so this time around.

He then shared a shocking revelation: a young man from a neighboring village - whom he doesn't know, told him about knowing his exact pattern of celebrating his birthday, including his departure date, which is usually a day after his birthday. He said he was loss for words after hearing what the young man said. And it was that information that formed his decision to cancel skip his public celebration, and opted for a low-key -a quiet celebration with just family. He also added that he'd be changing his departure plans too.

His decision is nothing short of being intentional about one's life and safety.

This story clearly reveals the other side of sticking to routines, how predictable lifestyles can be exploited, and the importance of being mindful of our routines.

While I love sticking to routines, I also try to not give room to predictability. That's why I ensure to create a balance by mixing structure with spontaneity, that way, I'll be keeping me safe. You too can employ this.

Your visit and engagement are always appreciated.

This is deeply thought-provoking. It highlights how much information we unknownly make public and how observant people can be. Sometimes wisdom lies in restraint —choosing caution over routine and silence over publicity.

This is definitely a very strong reminder that not everything about our lives needs to be announced or repeated, and that personal safety often begins with discretion. Thank you for sharing this important reflection.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Totally agree that wisdom lies in restraint. Being mindful of what we share and keeping some things private can be a powerful way to protect ourselves, family work or business. Appreciate you resonating with this.
