Into the Wild Erin Hunter
The last couple chapters took a little longer. Being passenger princess on this road trip I’m tasked with staying chatty to keep the driver from sleeping (safe driving no worries, just the roads being a little dull and he requested that I do until he actually feels sleepy and we switch drivers then) onto actual final thoughts now. I really enjoyed this! It was a perfect blend of everything without being too repetitive or boring and I’ve now found another series that I can confidently recommend to 8-12 age bracket (aka some of my nephews). I liked that it doesn’t necessarily wrap up completely with Tigerclaw being exposed to Bluestar or a safe path home for Ravenpaw (I hope I’m not getting any of the names wrong.
It was a little simplistic at times but for considering this is a middle grade book I can forgive it for that. The concept of cats being wild and belonging to different clans is really interesting. I do think at some point there will be a common evil that they will have to join together to beat but for now whilst the lore/worldbuilding is being established, I don't mind them being so separate. This was pretty fast paced and had a decent central plot so was a pleasant surprise for me. We had action and emotional moments but everything felt like it flowed really well.
I really enjoyed the world-building of this, quite interesting and new-ish done seamlessly through Firepaw’s intro to the clans. It did get a little too simplistic at times? Like while it’s fast paced, it didn’t grip me as much I’d wanted to and I found my mind drifting off to places I really wanted to avoid (doesn’t help that this road trip reminds of trips I’d taken with dad . All in all though, super glad I picked this one up because it was just the book I’d needed to ease myself back into reading and I’m rating this a 4. I’ll return to reading Book 2 later .
