Eileen - Ottessa Moshfegh
I'm genuinely so frustrated with this book. I think more could have been made of the relationship between Eileen and Rebecca because what do you mean Eileen literally killed a woman 3/4 days after meeting Rebecca like?? It's just bizarre and I don't think we got as much detail into Eileen's wants and motivations as we could have done. I get that it was probably because she'd never had a friend before so was willing to do a lot for the friendship but she also seemed so fickle that I think she could've left Rebecca to sort a lot of it out. The penultimate chapter also felt like it could've gone a bit darker than it did and instead just ended a little abruptly. I feel like Eileen herself was a pretty flat character but again it felt like the way she was written so it reflected how the people in her life treated her. I might change my rating (3 stars) later because it was a well written book but I think it didn't deliver in the way I wanted it to.
This story with Lee is absolutely horrible. I can't believe he's gone through all that and is just getting punished for it. His mum being complicit in it too makes me sick.
Hang on a minute....Rebecca's broken into the house and has Rita tied up? I mean she deserves something bad for facilitating her son's r*pe but that doesn't mean they should be taking justice into their own hands.
If Mr Polk was a cop and this is a small town then how did Eileen's dad not know who he was?
Chapter 9 - The End: Hang on a second, she left on Christmas Day and was already married by the spring? Wow
How the hell was she never caught when she literally left Rita to die in her car?
