Batman: The Killing Joke - Alan Moore
I watched the movies with Christian Bale when they came out years ago. There was one Joker movie with Heath Ledger, I mostly remember this movie from the trilogy, but even from this, just the memorable moments.
Over all, it felt very short and the characters felt very pale. Maybe because I know so little about them. Jokers speech at the end just felt like an edgelord, and he didnt even prove his point that it takes "one bad day" for someone to turn crazy. And it seemed like the chemical waste was the main thing that made him go as crazy as he is today? Not the death of his wife and poverty and violence? And I am so bored with a "the world sucks and everyone who is not depressed is naive," philosophy. Cynicism is just a lazy way to get out of trying to change anything and make a better place, imo. I am aware that this is a villain and this is Jokers whole thing. Its just that a talk like that just makes me roll my eyes, whenever characters act like that. Or when people in real life talk like this.
I liked the art style and the coloring. Could have done without all the violence against women.
I guess it is interesting to know Jokers backstory. But then I dont know how canon works in the DC world, if there is one backstory, or many, or if the comics and movies always play in the same universe, etc. That just feels like a mountain of information I am not ready to find out.
He embodies vengeance. He tries to bring justice and fights for the people on the street level. He can be too grumpy at times with the Justice League but he is good at heart. But instead of everything the constant cat and mouse game with the Joker gets too many innocent civilians killed which is one thing that I dislike. All his villains actually respect him which is another great thing about Batman.
It had some great panels and parallels between current day/past. I liked that.
So - interesting to try this out, not my comfort zone, guess I wasnt the biggest fan, but like I said, I know almost nothing about this universe and might not have "oh wow! Thats why xy is the way they are!" moments.
