Grocery Shopping At My Local Market

IMG-20220304-WA0013.jpg

Going to the market is one of the things that stresses me a whole lot and I'd rather buy all of my groceries at the supermarket if I could. But not everything can be gotten at the supermarket and I prefer most of these foods fresh.

This market is called Station market located in Kaduna South, Kaduna and it's a few minutes drive from my house. I prefer it to the one closer to my house because it is spacious and I can walk around freely without anyone bumping into me.

Here, I buy everything I need and I can get local ingredients from my region here like banga (palm fruit). These are not usually of the best quality and don't make my local dishes as exciting but I make do with them just to get a taste of home sometimes.

I am a regular here and I buy from the same set of people every time. Their prices are fair, they're super nice to me and I get premium service so I barely ever go to other stalls.

This is where I buy my tomatoes, peppers, and onions. I always buy two of these small buckets for tomatoes, one for peppers/onions and it lasts me for a month or more. I am a sucker for good customer service so the day she helped me carry my items from her stall to the market entrance, she won my heart.

I also buy other things like melon seeds, ogbono, stock fish, beans, vegetables, cow skin and crayfish from a particular stall. There's no point walking around the whole market or excessively bargaining because everyone sells within the same price range.

Food items have been on the high side in recent months but I found out that things were relatively cheaper on this shopping trip. I was able to get everything I wanted for about $15 and I had my bags full.

Hahaha, I was wondering who your paparazzi was. Thanks for introducing him too....lol

I love your sunscreen, will you dash me that one? 🥺😁

It's nice you have good customers you buy from and it takes away the stress of walking up and down the market bargaining.

I guessed as much that your hubby was your paparazzi and finally you introduced him.

Awwwn, going to the market with your hubby, is sweet even though you don't enjoy it. It's the same problem I have, I always get drained out whenever I go to the market but most times, going to the market yourself is best because you alone know what you are looking for and just like you, I have a particular person I buy all I want and most times because of the stress, I just get their numbers, so it will be easier for me.

I hope when you cook that stew and soup, you will send my share down to my state?

Ha! Your paparazzi is your husband? The very best kind, yes? Everyone should have one! :)

I like buying from one person or two, that is so much easier and they will be more amenable to giving you the best price. Those tomatoes look great! How do you keep them so good for so long? I know you must refrigerate them, but sometimes I freeze the tomatoes, especially if I am using them for soups or stews. I'm lazy that way plus when tomatoes get scarce and out of season, I have some.

I love your shirt by the way. :)

I think you found a great place to shop and the best people! This was a perfect post and I want to thank you for being a part of #MarketFriday! I cannot tell you how pleased I am to see so many participating every week. I have learned so much about the different cultures of the world, especially the small things that go unnoticed except by those looking for it. Life is interesting, wherever you are, whatever you are doing.

#MarketFriday began as a way to reach out across the globe and learn about different cultures through their markets, especially local markets and farmers markets and eventually branching out and evolving over time from straight shopping to a cultural affair as it highlights how we differ and then again, how much we are alike. We have become a melting pot of culture, but, it is still the Rituals, Festivals, food, architecture, even your language/languages that separate us. I can only hope that learning about each other can help us work together for a peaceful world. Anyone reading this can learn how to be a part!

Fridays are all about the #MarketFriday Challenge! Looking to take part in it? Here is how:

Rules of the Road to Join #MarketFriday!

Go to the market, or anywhere that you pay money for a service.

Take pictures! Be creative!
Tell us a little bit about the market or the event. What brought you there? What did you buy? How much did it cost?
Post the picture(s) Of course, you should tell a little bit about the ones you post
Use the MarketFriday Community Platform to post #hive-196308 (this is not required, but appreciated)

Drop the link into the MarketFriday comment section so I can find it
Following me and reblogging the post so more see it would be appreciated !! Not a rule, just appreciated, more vision for more views on your posts!
You must put #MarketFriday by @dswigle somewhere on your post. If you don't and someone reads it, there is nothing to tie #MarketFriday to that post.
Please only one post each week. Believe it not, I run out of voting power if you put in many more than that.
As always, please remember! #MarketFriday loves you!
