Diese treten meistens als Gruppe auf, spielen untereinander und machen den Anschein, dass man gewinnen könnte und versuchen Passanten zu einem Hütchenspiel zu animieren, das sie dann manipulieren. Man kann nur verlieren.
Achtung vor Hütchenspielern
Es gibt nichts zu gewinnen. Sie können nur verlieren. Spiele sind verboten!
Nehmen Sie bei einem Hütchenspiel teil, machen Sie sich ebenfalls strafbar!
Sehen Sie einen Hütchenspieler, rufen Sie sofort den Notruf 133 und geben Sie den Standard durch.
Habt ihr schon mal Hütchenspieler auf der Straße gesehen? Vielleicht sogar teilgenommen? Würdet ihr die Polizei verständigen?

These usually appear as a group, play among themselves and make it appear that you could win and try to encourage passers-by to play a shell game, which they then manipulate. You can only lose.

If you take part in a shell game, you are also liable to prosecution!
If you see a shell game player, immediately call the emergency number 133 and report the location.

Ok interessant... hab das Plakat in der Mariahilfer Straße gesehen, selbst ist mir aber noch keiner dieser Hütchenspieler untergekommen.
Hab zum ersten Mal so ein Plakat gesehen, dachte die Polizei kann nichts dagegen machen, da die Spieler sofort fliehen, wenn sie einen Polizisten sehen.

I have not seen any before in the US, but even if I did, I would not play. I don't trust it after seeing all the scams out there. I don't think I would call the cops and just ignore them.
Musste gerade an die Hütchenspielszene aus "Das Krokodil und sein Nilpferd" denken. Leider gibt es die nicht auf YouTube. 😅

Erstmals (vielleicht auch letztmals) aufgefallen und in Erinnerung geblieben sind mir solche ein paar mal auf Mallorca in den 90ern. Ich hätte mich beinahe verführen lassen.
Anscheinend machte die Polizei mit denen gemeinsame Sache (und wohl nicht nur mit denen), denn die kamen höchst offiziell mit Dienstwagen und teilweise Blaulicht aufmarschiert, was natürlich äußerst zielführend ist bei Missetätern, die innerhalb von Sekunden verschwinden können (und bei denen immer mindestens einer Schmiere steht, hab ich mir sagen lassen).
Wenn sie die erwischen wollen hätten, hätten sie verdeckte Ermittler in Zivil verwendet und sie innerhalb von Minuten gehabt. Die Anweisungen der Wiener Polizei lassen mich vermuten, dass es da nicht anders ist.
Denke die Hütchenspieler sind schwer zu fassen, wie du sagst, haben einen Aufpasser und sind schnell wieder weg, hoffe dass die Polizei hier nicht so korrupt ist und dagegen vorgeht.
Die Jungs & Mädels sind in jeder Stadt vorhanden. Die Westminster Bridge in London z.B. ist voll von ihnen.
Of course you see them in big cities from time to time. There nothing but con artists, just like tree-card monte. I've never played because it's a suckers game, and why report them? They just move to a new location and have a watch out for police.
Yeah, this is a pretty common scam in big cities. All winners are actually scammers trying to convince people to take a try. And obviously all real players loose money.

I feel that in part it is a problem that can affect more tourists and well I think that whenever you go to a big unknown city everywhere there are people who take advantage of your ignorance.
