The Cost of Overworking: How Inflation Led to a Health Crisis

The advent of inflation has been terrific for many, especially those from this part of the world. I'm not left out of this, and one of the means of surviving this was acquiring extra jobs, doing extra shifts so I can have multiple streams of income to meet my needs, and that if my family, the end results of doing all of these cumbersome jobs lead to deteriorating health for me, and I had to seek medical help to sail through.

The Pressure of Inflation: The truth is, we all want to have wealth and be financially stable, so things have to go well for us. However, inflation has caused a lot of damage, increasing the prices of items and making survival almost impossible for us. The best solution I felt would save me from the plague of this was to delve into multiple jobs without thinking twice, which I did without considering its negative impact on my life and health.

The Health Toll: And after the plague of illness hit me, leaving me unable to perform my duties efficiently, I sought medical care after a checkup. I realized I'm having multiple illnesses, and the highest of all was high blood pressure, and the realization of this made me disappointed. Aside from disappointment, the doctors prescribe many medicines for me to buy and use, so I have to curb the high blood pressure and be in a perfect state of health once again.

A Wake-Up Call: All of these played out within the last three months, and I, who was trying to earn more to survive, am now spending the same money on drugs rather than on what I intended it for. These made me realize that in all our planning related to work, I must always strive to strike a balance between work and life, living room for enough time to rest, and refreshing for better job delivery.

Making a Change: But despite how sick and tired I was, I was still doing all of these multiple jobs because I've got a commitment to do them and wasn't ready to break that commitment. I was asked to come for a regular check once a month at the hospital, and each time I go, the BP is still very high, making the doctors prescribe more drugs for me. But after realizing I'm tired and ineffective and not forgetting how much I was spending on drugs, I decided to take a break from the new offline job.

Lessons Learned: Which I did throughout last week, and during those periods, I rest and sleep a lot, exercising and having a clear mind off work, and before I knew it, I was feeling stronger and stronger. By the time I went for a checkup a few days ago and they did another checkup, it was discovered that I no longer have high blood pressure, and most of the drugs I was asked to use were drastically reduced. Instead of coming every month, I was also not asked to come again for a check-up until another three months.

Moving Forward: I was thrilled, excited, and feeling refreshed and energetic to bounce on any activities now. With this realization, I've learned my lesson and realized that the need for a break can't be downplayed if at all we are striving for a work-life balance as we journey through life in our day-to-day activities. In light of that, I won't joke with taking a break going forward; it's only when I'm fit that I can deliver my job effectively and as well be there for my family, so I'll make it a point of duty and hope you'll as well.

These reminds me of my experience at the time i was operated for ovarian cyst and appendicitis, a week after the operation, i was eager to return home and continue my home lesson which was the our source of income at that time and this thought came in after i heard of another young girl who began doing home lessons having some of my pupils attending...

The pain that came with it is something i would never forget in this life time. Not taking proper rest and putting the body under pressure at that fragile moment cost me alot, it's been 4 years since that incident but the pain still comes sometimes till date.

Hmmm that's a very serious illness o, thank God for your life o, and that's another reason why we shouldn't go out of our way to overwork and stress ourselves, especially after such a surgery.

I pray God grant you full healing.
