I had a great time at my friend's wedding
The last few days have been eventful, tiring, but pleasant for me as I get to travel all the way from Lagos State to grace the wedding ceremony of two of my friends who are tying the knot in holy matrimony in Ekiti State, Nigeria. I got an invitation to be one of the groom men in agbada (a Yoruba culture attire), and I happily accepted the offer being that we were both good friends during our national service year.
Being men in agbada usually costs a lot, from purchasing the selected fabric to sewing the fabric and then transporting oneself to and fro the event back, not to mention purchasing gifts for the couples and the various mandatory tradition rites that require money to clearify during a Yoruba cultural wedding ceremony, but regardless of all those, it's more awesome to witness the beginning of a new family, especially when it's between two friends.
I left Lagos for Ekiti State around 12 p.m. on Friday, but I didn't arrive at my destination until about 10:26 p.m. of the same night. Although tired, I still tried as much as possible to help get something in place for the wedding that'll take place the following day, and by the next morning we first went for the traditional wedding simply known as engagement, as below is a picture I took with the groom before we left for the engagement ceremony location.
The ceremony went swiftly, and I must commend the engager, better known as MC, for being time conscious and understanding not to delay the groom in paying each of the listed amounts required in different stages of the engagement. I've been to some weddings where the engager literally delayed the engagement process until all required amounts were provided before proceeding to other stages.
After several rites were completed, the groom was finally asked to carry his new bride to his parents, and I must confess I was a bit worried if he'd be able to carry her because he's much taller than his wife, but he surprised everyone of us and carried her. Although he had to walk pretty fast to drop her at the feet of his parents, he certainly won't want to fall on his wife on their wedding day.🤣🤣
Overall, I had a good time during the program; there was enough food and drink to go around, although I was conscious of what I took in because I don't have a running stomach when traveling back home, so I only ate a pounder yam and touched a little of the soup not to prompt the upset I'm trying to avoid. Sorry I didn't take photos of the food, but below are some photos of me during the reception later in the day after the church wedding program.
Overall, I had an amazing experience at the wedding ceremony, although I didn't attend the church program after the engagement because I was stressed out from the journey of the previous day and working through the night to get things in place before the wedding. After the church program, we all moved to the reception venue, where moving foods were served, dancing of the couple's and both brides trains, and men in agbada, which was a joy to behold.
I wish them a happy marriage life and pray God bless them with all that is needed for their home to be a happy, fruitful, and blessed family. Thanks so much for your time. I hope you enjoyed the read and had enough to fill your eyes with in the photos. Have a pleasant night's rest.
