That's One Big Gold Coin!

Here's a cool fact I learnt today.

The biggest gold coin ever minted was casted in 2011 by the Australian Perth Mint.

And it's big. One ton of 99.99 % gold fucking big!

This “One Tonne Gold Australian Coin” is the world’s biggest and most valuable coin. Weighing one tonne of 99.99% pure gold, this monumental coin measures nearly 80cms wide and more than 12cms deep. source

What is super funny of course is that it is issued as legal tender, with a nominal value of 1 million Australian dollars, or 642,800.00 USD with today's exchange rate.

Needles to say, it's actual value is way, way, wayyyyyyyy more. About 60 million in USD,, and that's just it's weight in gold, euros taking the added collector's value.... It's one of a kind after all 😅

And here's how the previous record holder looked like in case you are curious:

A big ass sexy golden maple!

The Australian-made large gold coin is ten times heavier than the previous world-record gold coin, a 3,215 ounce, or 220-pound, gold coin known as The Big Maple Leaf (BML) issued by the Royal Canadian Mint in 2007 that was the first to carry a legal tender value of $1 million (CAD). After the original coin was produced, the mint struck five more examples for private investors, and as of March 2017 they had a gold value of about $4 million each. source

And here I am, happy with my hand full of golden sovereigns... Meanwhile some rich fuckers own these huge golden maples 😅😂

Oh well... Plebs gonna pleb 😢

Hope you enjoyed reading about these two beauties. As always, feel free to clock any of the links above if you want to learn more about them!

Damn it. I'm just wondering how many of these coins would fit in a neutron star.

I'm always looking for the reason and the beginning of things :) Once upon a time, all this gold splashed out due to the collision of neutron stars.

That is a pretty expensive coin. It's only for those collectors with tons of money to spare.

Just don't offer to display this coin in Germany or it might get stolen like the big gold Maple leaf.

now that's some serious bling, but that's kind of hard to brag about given how inventive people can be when it comes to stealing valuable shit

The minting of the one-ton gold coin by the Australian Perth Mint is truly impressive and a feat of engineering. It's amazing to think that such a massive coin is considered legal tender and has a nominal value of only 1 million Australian dollars.
