Got Some Ottoman Silver

I did some hunting on Facebook market the past week to see if I could score any silver deals in my town and came to an arrangement with two sellers.

I met the first one today, a woman in her early 60s. She had all kinds of old coins, most were regular junk but she also had some silver ones, and there were two small ones that caught my eye since I didn't have any in my collection!

She was asking 2$ for each, hence a total of 4$. Wanna see them?

I really like how they have aged btw. Nice toning and just enough wear and tear damage to show their true age while still maintaining enough from the original characteristics!

So after doing a bit of googling I found that these are 1 kurus coins and were minted in from 1861 to 1867, by the now defunct Ottoman Empire during the reign of the Abdülaziz sultan:

Abdulaziz (8 February 1830 – 4 June 1876) was the sultan of the Ottoman Empire from 25 June 1861 to 30 May 1876, when he was overthrown in a government coup. He was a son of Sultan Mahmud II and succeeded his brother Abdulmejid I in 1861.

As aforementioned, they are super small, just 1.2027 heavy with a purity of 0.830. That's about one gram of pure silver.

Oh almost forgot, here's a photo of their edge

Nothing special, which is expected I guess since they are so thin.

All in all, excited for adding a new piece in my collection ^_^

Tomorrow I'll be meeting my second Facebook seller and report back. It's a piece I have shown you a couple of times in the past. Nothing special, but it's one of my favorite to stack for the right price :)

In other news, silver broke 29$ per oz while I was asleep and I have a feeling the 30$ stronghold will follow soon suit:

Bullish? Dunno. Rumors are iran about to invade Israel. Things are slowly yet steadily heating up and it doesn't look like they gonna get any better anytime soon. And from what I read here and there most peeps share the same sentiment 😄

Oh well. All we can is hope for the best and prepare for the worst.

Ok plebs, this is it for today!

Stack on!

The Ottomans, wow. I guess in Greece you are likely to see more of these monetary artifacts floating around than we are likely to see in the U.S. I've said it before: you won't need a book to teach your kids history. Just take them through your coin collection. History will be far more real and vivid for them.

Great, historical finds, @trumpman!!!
I wish I had time to rummage through thrift stores and meetups. The last time I've been to a estate sale was 6 years ago!

Those are really cool! I love those things!

I think Iran isn't dumb enough to try to invade, but there will be some missile strikes.
