Farewell my Selenes!

avatar

I started packing some of my coins on the new capsules I showed you yesterday, figured to start with my 20 dracmai coins from 1960:

received_623098113108125~2.jpeg

These used to be among my favorite coins when I first started stacking, mainly because they are easy to score on a price near spot due to being quite abundant in my country. That, and they also are quite beautiful if you ask me.

As you can see, I own 11 pieces, it was probably about double that when I first started, but I ended up gifting a lot to friends and family. I remember even sending one for the #secretsanta that was done by #silvergoldstackers last year but can't remember who it was...:) Anyways.. Silver makes a great gift that's for sure!

I have some regrets to be honest for giving so many away, as this little stack would look much cooler at double the size...But oh well 😂

Anyways, this is probably the last time I will show any you these coins. I used to have them in a coin album in my main location but I will soon move them to my super secret stash nobody knows about 🫢🤑

Quick coin specs
I have talked a lot about these coins in the past so I'll keep this short and give you just a quick run down this time.

These were the last standard circulation dracmai made off silver.

Each of these little babies weights 7.5 g and is made of 0.835 purity, with the rest being copper. So my little stack has about 69 g of pure silver, a bit over 2 oz.

On the reverse we have Selene riding a horse. In ancient Greece she was the goddess and personification of the Moon, riding her moon chariot across the heavens. The dolphin that is visible in the coin indicates how she rised from the sea.

In the observe we have King Paul, King of Greece from 1 April 1947 until his death in 1964.

Here's a photo of how he actually looked liked in his late 30s

He would make a great James Bond, wouldn't he? 😂😂😂

If you like these coins they are pretty common and cheap and can be found in many places including ebay. I think 3-5 $ is a fair price for a piece in fair condition.

As I aforementioned, I will be moving these coins in my super secret stash so it will be a while till they see the light of day again...

Farewell!

Cool coins! Just checked eBay, most are above the $5 US range. This one they're asking $25

Blessed by the Sweet Goddess of the moonlight.
My 1960 Selene is somewhere lost in my house, her picture was easy to find.

I this off Ebay for about $6 CAD-ish.

I give a lot of stuff away too. I also trade things that I absolutely could not live without when I bought them 🤷
I'm sure I've pissed someone off that gave me something that I later gave away in a trade 😂

Yeah!
Remember the Selene I bought as a gift! Well, I complained and gave them a copy of the blog, explaining how I was misled by his description of the coin. Guess what? He sent me the silver coin here:

Really cool coin. I like the idea of giving away silver coins as gifts. I was reading a bit about the Ike dollar the other day. The page mentioned that he liked to collect silver dollars from the year of his birth and give them away. I thought that was a really cool idea. Silver dollars are a bit expensive for me to do that, but I like the idea anyway.
