The thing about tolerance in the workplace...

avatar

Tolerance is something I believe everyone should have. For you to be able to get along with people sometimes, you just need tolerance. In our workplace, we meet people. We have coworkers that we have to collaborate with. As long as you are dealing with humans, there will always be one person that will want to annoy you or do stuff that will trigger you. You just need to show some tolerance so that you will be able to do your work.

Most times you are required to work as a team with your coworkers to get things done. That collaboration is necessary for the progress of the business. In a situation where workers can't tolerate each other, team work won't just be efficient. The work environment would be toxic. Such toxicity is detrimental to productivity.

No one can be able to work efficiently in an environment where the people can't tolerate each other and are at odds with each other.

One also had to show tolerance towards customers. Almost everyone who has interacted with clients or customers as part of their job can admit that some customers can be annoying. They would get on your nerves and all you would want to do is vent your anger on them. Tolerance is gold in such situations. It takes a whole lot to be tolerant, not lose your cool and still do your job in such a scenario, but it pays.

The unfortunate thing is that some people purposely get on your nerves just to see you react. It's either they enjoy making you angry or they want you to react in a way that would get you into trouble in your workplace. Some individuals don't react well to provocation, and so they get violent with coworkers, leading to their suspension, query or even being sacked.

The good thing about tolerance is that, in some ways, it maintains relationships. For instance, a coworker who you're on good terms with may annoy you, probably unintentionally. People make mistakes. Tolerance would prevent you from reacting in a harsh way that could affect that friendship. Eventually, that friend could go on to be the best thing that happened to you and even become very helpful in the future.

Be that as it may, while tolerance is a good thing, you shouldn't let people take advantage of your tolerance or let people insult you. There should be a line. You shouldn't have to endure nonsense behavior just because you're trying to be tolerant. When the need arises, people should be put in their place.

It's unfair to keep being tolerant towards someone who repeatedly exhibits terrible behavior. This is where self-respect comes in. You have to respect yourself enough not to tolerate some constant acts.

Tolerance can actually boost productivity in the workplace, but one has to draw a line which people are not allowed to cross, otherwise people will take advantage of it.

I just decided to pay attention to the part where you said it’s unfair to be tolerant towards some people
Not because I’m like violence but because 🤣🤣🤣

Anyway you’re right, tolerance is needed for productivity at workplaces

Of course, some people just make it difficult to be tolerant towards them😅.

For a peaceful coexistence of humans tolerance is needed, there is no way a group of people will work together without upsetting one another at some point. I do agree with setting boundaries for tolerance because the moment people notice that no matter what they do you will tolerate it,they will make it an habit of always trying to piss you off.

"...as long as you are dealing with humans..." I love that line. True, each person is uniquely different and we can only achieve work goals when we learn to cultivate tolerance
