MY MOTIVATION

What a coincidence with my last post (you can check on the first paragraph for proof). Right there I appreciated a good friend of mine who helped me think things through in writing that post.

The song “Lean On Me” by Bill Withers is a description that no one is an Island. We also see in the first scripture of the holy book (Bible) that God chooses to create Eve for the purpose of companionship.

It's not wrong to be tough at times, I mean being your own motivation, but then you would agree that at one time in life, you've been motivated by someone.

For me, I get inspiration from everything as long as it's of importance to me. And if I do get motivated by a person, sometimes they're even unaware of it. But then, they would know because I would always tell them thank you at the end.

I visited a friend of my mom 2 years ago. When I got to the house, I met the woman in the kitchen preparing her ingredients for fried rice, so I helped her cut the vegetables.

Soon I was done, and then she measured the portion of the raw rice she was going to use and asked me to wash it and dry it in the sun. I was surprised at first. One, because she didn't ask me to parboil the rice and secondly, I was suppose to sun after washing.

I didn't ask any questions and just did as she instructed. When it was time to cook, she turned the vegetable oil into the hot pot, after allowing it to heat a bit, the sliced onions were added to the hot oil.

I just stood there and watched quietly. As I was wondering how my mom’s friend would magically turn the sunned raw rice into fried rice, she suddenly added the rice to the already mixed vegetable oil and onions. After frying for a little while, she again added one of the seasonings, stirred again, and poured the chicken sauce into the rice to boil.

The evidence of shock was written all over my face and she didn't even notice until she was done. When she asked why I was looking like that, I told her the reason which of course she laughed lightly and explained to me.

According to my mom’s friend, that's the real fried rice. Well, I couldn't argue back since her cooking style came out looking fine and delicious.

The fried rice I was used to cooking wasn't bad and was equally nice but I was motivated to become a better cook by taking up a challenge of practicing how to prepare different delicacies and methods so i wouldn't look like a girl that doesn't know how to cook in the eyes of others again and also to put shock in people just as i was shocked back then.

This cooking story is the simplest experience I could come up with. However, in different ways and occasions, I've gotten motivated by others too, especially in important matters.

Although, I do challenge myself with a task that has helped in self-discovery but even that idea was given by someone very close to me.

In the end, we have all been affected by the opinion of others which the result could either be of advantage or disadvantage to us. I bless God for the few people around me, whose idea has added to me positively just as I've somehow been to others.

One beautiful thing about cooking is that there a many ways to arrive at the desired destination. Your style may not be mine what matters is the outcome.
