The Final Week Of 1st Class Spanish Primary School

Today marks the final week of the school year

A year flew by and how far has our daughter come from speaking no Spanish to sometimes spitting out whole conversations totally unexpectedly? Today marks the last week of school, next week she will go to school until 2 on Thursday to then have 12 weeks of summer holidays! Twelve weeks, did you read it correctly? Yes! Twelve long weeks. Can you tell me that I'm a bit nervous about the next three months? I'm trying to work ahead a lot and think of many activities for the summer holidays, so at least part of it should be covered.

Right now, we are counting down, whether we like it or not. Today was the final day she needs to bring her "maleta" (suitcase) with books to school because tomorrow they only have an exam (the final exam of the year) and for the rest, they are going to have a foam party at school to celebrate the year.

Next week, the week is filled with workshops and they will be mostly painting and crafting, so they only need to bring their drinks, food, and pencil cases. No more schoolyards filled with kids and their suitcases this school year!

Learning rapidly

Thanks to the amazing girl we hired to tutor our daughter, she has made huge progress, especially with lengua (Spanish). Where she often had a 3 for exams, and 5 on average (all year so far), she earned an 8 for lengua on her last exam and had her final lengua exam today (no score yet) which makes me hopeful that she can at least pull up her average to a 6. If not, it's fine as we've seen the huge progress she made after having 4x 1,5 hours tutoring every single week (us or the tutor being ill as the only exceptions) so either way, we're proud of her!

The final day of tutoring

Today also marks the final day of tutoring for this school year because there will be no more classes after her exam tomorrow. Her tutor will come to assist her with the final exam this afternoon and it will be the absolute last stretch for her in terms of learning this year. I could not leave the opportunity unused to thank her for her dedication, patience, and guidance. She had to put up with an often stubborn and not focused child for 1,5 hours, four times a week. I salute her!

She's been a champ and I love how she often created fun games to spark her interest. She managed to find a healthy mix of learning and having fun while doing so. Thankfully, she asked us last week if she needed next year, and I'm glad she did because I would have been very stressed if she was not up for next year's task to tutor her. We're very grateful for her help so I had to buy her a token of appreciation.

What to buy?

I didn't want to fall back to buying her some sweets like bonbons or anything because when they're finished, it's gone. I preferred giving her something lasting this time and so I took my daughter to the market downhill to see if we could find something. I assumed they had plenty of gifts for teachers at the end of the school year but I was lucky to find 1 mug with "Mejor prof del año" which translates to "Best teacher of the year" because, to our daughter, she has been the best!

This is it, and the mug came with a letter from us to show our appreciation as well as a drawing from our daughter. She cried a little receiving both the mug and letter. I'm happy I was bold enough to ask the hairdresser if her daughter was interested in helping out our daughter, I can't even imagine how things would be without her help. I hope we will be able to hire her for much longer. And if not needed for school, to babysit the little dragon so we can blow off some steam, lol.

Only one exam left

So only one exam is left for the children at school and for the rest of Friday they will have a foam party. Next week there's crafting and painting only. And then it's time to enjoy a very long summer holiday and I have the task to make sure she will not get too bored, I will tell you in another post how much I've been prepping for that.

I'm very curious about the final report of our daughter. I asked if she could repeat the first year but the teacher said that it's forbidden by law to repeat the first year. After I asked, she suddenly started to improve her grades so I can only hope with the help of the tutor, next year will start off much better than the first year and will contain a lot of repetitive tasks because I'm sure that the students will also experience some summer brain fogs because of the heat, lol.

Thanks for stopping by!

Congratulations to your daughter! The hard work of the both of you have paid off in the end. Yeah, summer fogs are common. Even me, after our exam last month, I could barely remember our lessons already. Haha! A review before the opening of classes will be helpful for that. But anyway, let her enjoy her summer and she'll be motivated again to study in the next school year. 💕
