Silver gold stackers engagement initiative #11 (1).png

Cheers to everyone joining!

It was nice to see a few new faces in the 10th Silver Gold Stackers Engagement Initiative post last week and there were some nice answers which is adding to my personal (and hopefully other people's) list of resources I can fall back to when I have questions.

I don't always like to ask advice to people directly as sometimes questions may feel stupid to ask or sometimes I'm a bit intimidated by the level of knowledge of some people that I wonder if they think I'm stupid asking something, lol. That's totally on me as this community has been nothing but helpful and kind to me from the first day I was introduced. I thank you all for that!

So maybe you have noticed that I started with the compilation series of this initiative to bundle several editions into one post and later make a collection of these to find it all back much easier than to endlessly put links below every post. It becomes ugly at some point, and the compilation posts will help me sort things properly. The first one can be found here.

New look

I wasn't really happy with the looks of the header pictures in the previous parts from the first moment but with the lack of proper inspiration to change that for the better, I left it as is. When creating the compilation post a few days ago, I created a new header which I think pops really nicely and I created the new question layout matching with that header image. Of course I don't mind showing off my very first Hive silver round from @silversaver888 in every edition either. It will also (hopefully) help people from outside Hive wonder what that round is about and maybe get curious enough to come and check it if this picture keeps popping up every week.

Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

With 11 people answering my question and seeing 67 comments in total, I think it was a nice round once again and I thank each and every one of you showing up. In the end we all have our own journey but it's been super nice to read about all of your journeys because this is how I also get to know other members a bit better.

As you know, I love building my HSBI shares and I have not bought many in the past weeks so this week it's another lucky week for every one who commented because I'm going to reward everyone with a share again this week. This means I sent out a share to those that I will tag below in no particular order:

@memess, @bitcoinman, @silverd510, @kerrislravelhill, @youloseagain, @thebighigg, @pocketechange, @elemental, @bulliontools, @silversaver888, @ironshield

image.png

Please let me know if in any case I ever make a typo or a share hasn't arrived so we can sort that out. @josephsavage always gives amazing customer service and will investigate any issues and solve them all so don't worry, your shares will always be added to your account, even if something went wrong in the first place.

You can check your HSBI balance and transactions here: https://www.hivesbi.com/userinfo/
Fill in your username and find information in transactions from your side as well as those that have sponsored you.

Question week 11

It's time to share the new question of this week:

Week 11 Silver gold stackers engagement initiative question (1).png

I will start writing the question out in text as well:

"Did you ever end up in a discussion with a seller when you found out the precious metal you wanted to buy was probably a fake or not as pure as advertised? How did it work out?"

You can leave a comment below this post or dedicate your own post to it but to be counted for a chance of a HSBI share, please let me know the link to that post in the comment section to not overlook your answer.

My answer

Even though I'm a fresh community member, I already had my experience of buying a bar that was advertised as silver but too good to be true in terms of price. I knew I had buyers protection though, so I bought it anyway. I wrote a post about it, so I will just link that one here if you want to read it: If something sounds too good to be true.

Curious

I'm quite curious to read these stories because I'm quite sure most of you have been in such a situation and I've already read some comments/posts about the topic in the past as well so my guess is there's plenty to tell this week.

Feel free to tag another person in the community if you're answering, I don't want to make this a tag fest because I know some people hate being tagged every week. In case you wouldn't want to miss any question of the week and want to be tagged, let me know so I will add a subscription list to this initiative. Just leave a comment and then I will tag you from the next edition.

Leaving me with just one thing, wishing you Happy Easter as it's Easter Monday and a great week ahead, I hope it will be a good one for everyone!

The Hive round picture is my own, the silver background is from Canva Pro.

My moment was when I went to a reputable seller to get my coins checked. He threw them back across the table, said they were fake and broke their protective casing.
This was while I was discussing buying several bits from him.

Have come to find out he's a complete stuck up arse that overpriced all his 'precious metals' and sadly has now lost a potential long term customer as it was the easiest place to get to so that I can keep living the stacker lifestyle.

What the heck, that's a horrible experience, how rude! I'm very sorry about this experience.. that sucks..

Glad you found out early though, better not give such a person your money.. better spent elsewhere..

Thanks for the HSBI! So far, I haven't run into an issue with this, but I've passed up a few sales that were fishy and likely were scams.

I haven’t run into an issue really.
Maybe buying from JMBullion and getting stained rounds. Pain in the ass to get refund. I stopped using them over it. Yea that counts but it wasn’t in person.

Happy Easter! !PIMP

Good that you haven't ran into any issues, I mean nobody likes to get scammed or be put in the situation having to argue about quality.

The stained rounds sounds like a pain too. I guess that happens when some sellers advertise that this is not the actual round you receive but one similar etc. So they can get rid of the less pretty ones before selling off the good looking ones?

Happy Easter to you too!

I only bought from one official source, I have like 3-4 coins only. !DHEDGE

That's definitely the way to go so everyone recommends.. I can't wait until I Have an actual store nearby rather than having to go to the city for that. So for me it's online for now.

I don't have too many 1oz rounds yet either but we all have to start somewhere :)

Thank you so much for the HSBI!

In the many years that I have been purchasing silver and gold, I ran into an issue only once, and it was with SD Bullion. I brought my complaints to SD Bullion's attention. The person who handled my complaint was giving me standard replies, no apologies, and no "let me make it right for you". I hung up the phone on the person, and that was it. No one wants to argue a quality issue, especially me. As far as I am concerned, my issues have not been resolved. I never bought from them again.
What were my issues? I purchased two very old BU U.S. Dollars, and what I received was far from BU. You can see the coin HERE.

Thank you, @thisismylife, for allowing me to vent.

I remember you mentioning this to me once before and I think it's unheard for that they don't take responsibility for (a possible mistake) this issue. If someone can see it from a picture that it's a fake (I read the comments) they should surely be able to as well.

Did you send it back and have to pay a restocking fee now? That's ridiculous that you're paying that price for their mistake. The least they can do is own up to it and pay back the price in full.

Thanks for sharing another personal story, we all learn from each other don't we? I'm grateful every time someone shares some of their personal journey because it may help a newbie avoid making the same mistake.

I can't tip this one anymore, but I will come back to do so later on another post :)

As you know I’m not new to this stacking and collecting. I’ve got lots of experience in this field. I’ve gotten burned once in my entire stacking/collecting years. It was a fake silver panda coin. The buyer sent me a total fake magnetic, poor edges, not the coin in the picture of the listing. It was from eBay. When I contacted the seller he shut down his store. I put a claim into eBay. They gave me the run around because the company closed up shop. But after my persistence they finally refunded me my money.

Sorry forgot to come back to comment :)

Yeah that's just shit when it happens, I hope I can avoid it from happening but honestly, everyone's experiences reading these, it helps to remind myself to be careful.. As well as the tip about the Morgan Dollar fakes because I was looking at a few of them at the time. Now I will refrain from these until I have gained some more confidence and knowledge..

Thanks for your contribution!

Thankfully I've never run into a situation like this, I haven't suspected any fakes, or had tohl handle any awkward situations having to do with that.

Only 2 times so far, once was from a private seller he would buy silver in bulk so it's no surprise some fakes snuck but I was checking everything I would buy and it was a really bad fake was even magnetic 🤣 and once at a jewelry store I tested at home and had to come back again super bad magnetic fakes he gave me some other coins and even gave me a bit extra seemed to me like he didn't really know much about metal verification. !BBH

Sorry that I came back late to answer, I read it but forgot to go back during the week..

Well, sometimes you could get lucky with some bulk buys, and I think when you buy that big, you can expect some fakes to slip like you said yourself..

Maybe a newbie who wanted to make a buck and hoped he'd do ok enough lol..

Thanks for showing up!

Hello, I hope to soon buy gold and silver, diamonds, even my income is low,
But once I bought beans, grains, and the man told me that they were soft and I bought them and it turns out that the seller deceived me. Those grains were a stone and smelled bad. They didn't even soften in a pressure cooker... I was very disappointed.

Oh that sounds bad indeed! Hopefully you got a refund or a new pack?

I haven't had the chance since I don't buy precious metals. On the other hand, I often see fake items online. One time I received a counterfiet electronics I had to file a report and return the item.

I remember one Ebay Seller who sold me a bag of 20 1968 🍁 silver 10 Cents coins, upon opening I quick tested them with an ordinary magnet and discovered that three of the twenty were Cupro-nickel and not 50% Silver. I took a picture of the original mail package, invoice, all the coins including the three that were stuck on the magnet submitted with a partial refund request. After a day, they refunded the entire amount along with an apology for the error and that I can just keep the coins, FREE! I had to give them a positive feedback. And they do have a spotless feedback to keep up.

Oh damn, but did you give a feedback in terms of there was an issue and they resolved it.. or just the 5 star thing without a comment?

I think they just hope it slips through and as long as only a few find the fakes, they can keep this up for a long time..

So I ended up getting 17 50% silver 10 cent coins with three 0% silver coins FREE! I gave them 5 Stars for "Resolving the issue with the most satisfaction." It could be deliberate but I never checked for similar situations with their previous customers. Keeping their 100% Customer satisfaction record.
