Neighbours who are worth their weight in gold - My neighbours rock!

All Is Now - Card Made By The Lovely @llunasoul

Good neighbour

It surely has proven to be true that a good neighbour is worth their weight in gold today. I normally don't drive when it's dark or during sunset because the past years I've noticed that I have bad vision at night and it scares the sh*t out of me that I can't oversee things properly.

Today the sun was just setting when we drove home from the cinema and I wasn't really relaxed in the car. Normally I just sit on the passenger seat but my man was still working. Anyway, we came home, we walked upstairs and after 30 minutes the bell rang.

Our downstairs neighbour came to our door to tell me that I left my car lights on and that the battery would die this way. The poor guy could barely walk with his sticks, so I felt really ashamed that he struggled his way to our door to warn me. But gosh, it makes me feel very happy to finally have neighbours around us who take care of each other.

Feeling grateful - Valentines Roses By My Boyfriend in 2023

Refreshing experience

In the other building, when they missed us, packages were lost or were returned without notice, no letter nothing. Not one neighbour who'd receive it for you either. Here, we constantly take in each others deliveries when we aren't home, all goes smooth and people are truly helping each other out. The first thing our next door neighbours said to me was "if you need anything, knock on our door".

This is how it should be, but it's been forever since I've lived in a building like this. My neighbour went the extra mile to warn someone he never met before, he probably found out through our direct neighbours that this was our car as they stand next to us. I appreciate the guy a lot and I will bring him a box of bonbons tomorrow to thank him because if the battery would have died we'd have a bigger issue. The man surely deserves a compliment and I would like him to know how much I appreciate his effort.

Do you have good neighbours? I haven't felt as safe as I have felt since we moved here for probably a decade. It's a great feeling, especially when you come from an unsafe environment.

Have a good weekend!

The header is a picture of a card I bought from @llunasoul last year when she offered her designs for sale as postcards and stickers. I asked her permission at the time if I could use them for my posts. Have a look at her profile because this lady is SO talented! Thank you again for the postcards dear, as you see, they are still present in my life <3

Good to see there are still nice people out there! I had a similar situation where my neighbour notified that the shared basement was flooding close to my storage space. I was just in time to take some boxes with pictures from the floor before they were ruined forever!

Yes, sometimes it's so needed to experience such things again. I mean, I never felt safe in our previous building, let alone that I'd ask a neighbour for help. The fact that they look out for each other says a lot and it's a good feeling.

Happy that you managed to safe the pictures, that would have been such a disaster otherwise!

Yeah in Holland we say the same, I didn't think in English it was the exact translation to that lol, but I admit I didn't check :)

I hope I can find back where he lives later to bring him a box of bonbons.

Have a good weekend!

I am actually from Flanders, so maybe it's just my litteral translation of a Dutch saying xD

Ah, that's very possible! I usually know when it's a true Dutch saying or when it's slightly different in English but in this case, I was not sure. Either way, the neighbour will have to wait until Monday because I found out that apparently "3 koningen" is a holiday here. Everything is closed today, lol. Oops.

Gave you a follow back :)

Is it an official holiday in the Netherlands?
In Belgium, people (mostly children) used and sometimes still go singing and there is a tradition of buying a cake and in a cake could a bean or coin or something be hidden. Whoever has the piece of the cake with the bean / coin, may call himself king for the rest of the day.
Guess it are the same traditions in the Netherlands?

In Belgium it isn't an official holiday though.

Oh no, not in Holland, I live in Spain :)
And although I thought I knew about all these different holidays by now, apparently I missed the "3 koningen" holiday note..

I remember we did that too as a child, but I'm honestly not sure if they do that here. They have some parades with kings but I think they throw the kids candy there, not at the doors, could be wrong though.

Oh well, instead we had a long walk and good pause in a Belgium restaurant with a few typical Dutch/Belgium snacks :)

I didn't but the boyfriend did. He always drinks a "donker kasteel bier" when we go there. I don't drink beer at all, rarely drink anyway but when I do it's usually more rum or something mixed with rum..

Donker kasteelbier is definitely a good choice!
I prefer beer over other alcoholic drinks when I drink alcohol.
Thanks for the great chat btw! :)

Like-wise! It's nice to connect to people I haven't really connected (or not at all) with before. And extra fun when you find out they also speak Dutch lol. After all we're sort of neighbours! Or at least we were :)

Yea, I try to connect with as many Dutch speaking people as I can, always great to meet other Dutch speaking people :D

Awesome to know you have amazing neighbors. It really is better when that's the case. Since 2018 I had some terrible ones, they are even the building admins! Ah but the experience turned me into a better person anyway. Still, having good neighbors are better. 👍

Oh that sucks even worse if they are the building admins!

I had my fair share of shitty neighbours, in Hungary we had a neighbour who seemed to be running a brothel in that apartment, I kid you not it was crazy to hear a woman this loud all day long :s I didn't even know what to say to my kid when she heard it, lol.

Lot's of terrible construction next or above us as well, or youth hanging in front of the windows where we slept, while they stayed their all night smoking, glad we don't have that anymore :)

In return we also had some very helpful neighbours added, which is rare nowadays so it seems.

Yeah but I've been praying for them since last yr. No bad incidents anymore and hopefully it stays that way. 😁

Am always happy to hear when people are in a better neighborhood. It really feels a whole lot better when we have good neighbors. 🙂
