Listnerds Newbies Guide - How To Auto Scale Your Emails.png

Make your email enjoyable to read

I will get to the auto-scaling part later in this guide, as I will first walk through some other tips as the auto-scaling is actually the last step before you check & sent the email. Creating an email can be daunting but creating a good-looking email can be even more daunting. I have to admit that I feel quite spoiled using the Hive blog editor as it just takes knowledge about a few simple codes to center your content, create bold or italic text and add some images. These few things as well as making sure you chop the text into paragraphs with a title will improve the reading pleasure a lot.

Of course, if English is not your native language, it's recommendable to run your content to a spelling checker as well. But what's easier is to add the Grammarly extension to your browser instead so it instantly notifies you of a spelling error and also suggests you the correct spelling. If you use these few simple tips and apply them to your Hive content as well as to your emails when you create them, your readers will enjoy reading your content even more and be thankful.

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Visually more appealing

Let's go a step further. Besides making your content more enjoyable to read, you can also make the content look more visually appealing. I will admit, that I was a total noob when it comes to coding HTLM into the email editor. I have done some simple coding way back in the past on my website at the time, but that's been buried far into my memory, lol. This means that it was a huge win for me when @finguru shared his knowledge about how to embed your images in the Listnerds editor. Sharing this thing that was probably already normal to him when writing content, was a HUGE tip to improve my formatting skills, and I'm super grateful when someone takes the time to share their knowledge. After all, this means we can grow together and improve the platform and the way it's used to market anything and everything you can imagine.

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Useful formatting tips and links to guides

If we look back at some of the previous guides I wrote regarding sending out emails, there are quite a few things that you can do to make sure your email gets noticed and is received well. Let's walk you through the guides so you can go back and read more about each topic. To grab the reader's attention, it all starts by having a catchy subject line for your email. But for the author it's probably one of the last steps to take before hitting the send button.

Here are some useful guides for you to make your email look great. First, start by creating nice graphics in Canva. I personally upgraded to the PRO membership as I use it every single day for my Hive content, Listnerds as well as my social media work but a free membership will get you going already! After that, read the instructions about how to embed your images into HTLM emals here.. Now I want to add one last step to this and that's how you can add a tiny bit of code to make sure your email gets auto-scaled depending on the screen size. I will just show you the code as I explained it to you in the embedding guide:

afbeelding.png

and now the tiny bit of code that you need to add to make your email auto-scale:

afbeelding.png

As you can see, you just add "class="img-fluid" exactly where I showed you, to be sure it's correct, you can compare your code. Once you've done it a few times, it will be easy and you will now be able to send out auto-scaling emails depending on the screen size of your reader. How great is that?

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Higher chance of getting your emails verified

If you embrace these steps mentioned above, there's a great chance you will see more emails getting verified and start earning Listnerds every single day. That is if you upgraded to the business or enterprise membership which I think is well worth it. It all may seem a bit overwhelming, but coming from someone that has no experience, it should be worth something when I tell you if I can do it, so can you! In this case, it's just a matter of documenting it correctly and applying the steps a few times. After a few times, you won't even check if your code is correct and know it's done right!

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Does it really matter?

I believe it does! I will take myself as an example. When I browse through my Hive feed as well as the new emails on Listnerds, I always first pick the authors that I know will make an effort of sharing good content that I love to read. Whether I love to read it or not is not defined by their formatting skills only, of course. I can love reading an author because of their writing skills, their humor and therefore support them by verifying their email.

Next up are those that usually have a good message but can still improve their emailing skills and/or blogging skills, they deserve a chance IMO and maybe with some tips and motivating and/or showing them the way, you may have yourself a kickass content creator in the (near) future! I believe sharing knowledge is super important as we can all grow from it.

So if you ask me, YES! It matters!

E-mail marketing text divider.png

Team Discord will be a source of information

I created a Discord for my team members (=downline) where we can discuss Listnerds questions directly as well as sharing tips or our useful content that may help others. I'm also going to throw in giveaways for my team members again soon and the next one I got lined up will be pretty cool if you ask me! It won't be a HivePunk, but another NFT! To get an invite, please reach out to me on Discord following my ID below int he footer of this guide after you used my Listnerds ref link to join Listnerds. This way you are part of my team, and I will do everything in my power to make sure you will grow and make the most out of your Listnerds experience! The Discord is still pretty empty but I'm trying to add a channel every day so it will be a source of information as well as inspiration in the future!

I have noticed quite a few people who had their images either too big or too small so I think this will help them out quite a bit. I don't really use images for my mails yet but I look forward to using this when I do.

Funny thing is, don't tell! lol I made a copying mistake when actually sending out this email :) lol, therefore (because I added an extra " somewhere) the image was not scaling at all. Don't even know where it went wrong because, in my doc, the correct link is saved.

OOPS!

Just a copying error, but for the rest, if you do these things a few times, it will be easy and not as complicated as it may seem at first.

You always produce so nice guides! I saw that class being mentioned by Blain on one of their shows, but it's much nicer to show it in a guide. Well done!

Thank you! I mentioned that someone gave me the tip but I forgot to tag @blainjones there lol. He actually told me. And he also told me when it went wrong due to adding a " too many by accident when I copied the link. OUCH! LOL

By the way, not sure what happened, but yesterday your email looked fine, now the image is oversized. I clicked on it by mistake. Possible the class is not working anymore?

I don't know what you mean with clicked on it by mistake?

I made a stupid copy error, where I didn't copy and paste the last " behind the code, and therefore they ended up "" like this instead of with the code in between. I always check it double, but somehow I missed it. When I opened my mail I noticed it too and was like oh no!!!! But nothing I can do after sending it.

I checked the code in my doc (I always save them) and there it was fine, so it was a weird copy paste error which I didn't catch, unfortunately.

So it works, but not if you move the " LOL :)

I don't know what you mean with clicked on it by mistake?

I mean that I already saw it yesterday... I think. Or maybe I saw the post without going through Listnerds. I can't remember how I got to your post yesterday, lol. But today I checked it on Listnerds and saw the sizing issue. As long as you figured out what the issue was and it didn't seem to affect other emails with images, that's ok.

0

I just didn't know how to read that part, sorry :) not important..

But yeah as soon as my email is there I check it so I instantly see it, and that's just a "GRRR" moment but I also try to discover what went wrong so it won't happen again. In the end, it's all trial and error and we can all make a stupid mistake for example by accidentally deleting a part of a link when our cursor is going wild or something. I've had very strange copy paste moments due to my cursor going rogue on me. And then I'm focused on making it work again and may totally oversee a tiny error in a link/code/image etc..

C'est la vie, Just a waste of the email :) But I appreciate you mentioning it lol. Yesterday I said to Blaine that I started doubting myself as nobody mentioned anything and maybe it was scaling anyway and just huge because of the big screen I was using :)

I assumed that someone would say you idiot, you made a post about scaling and then failed to scale your email :-) I could have handled it, I was telling myself that as well lol.

No problem, it happens! Personally I try not to forget to click Preview before sending the email. I don't have the patience to add images, but I check to make sure I don't mess up the link, mostly.

0
0
0.000
avatar

I did, but I now realized why that wasn't enough. I went to preview, clicked on the link, and then when I went to that link, I had to restart my email, as it didn't create a draft. So I quickly copied pasted it again, and this time I failed to notice the extra " somewhere. Trust me, I often check it 3x and am still afraid I miss something, but then again, it happens. It's not the end of the world, just a missed opportunity.

The upside of all of this is: whenever you make a mistake, this is something you pay attention to next time, at least, speaking for yourself. It's more likely that I will pay attention after making a mistake and notice it, the mistakes are remembered easier than other info that nobody validates if it's done correctly.

You know, that's the problem, lol. You are doing things so well that when anything seems out of order, it is remarked.

And both your posts and emails are impeccable, so don't worry.

Hey @thisismylife, I read your post about how to get your email verified on Listnerds and I understood how it works. Thanks a lot for that. Can you tell me the different ways to earn Listnerds? If I upvote someone's mail, do I get both Listnerds and CTP or only CTP?

Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry that I forgot to answer. I left the tab open but went to work on another device. Sorry!

The CTP stake is meant to verify emails by voting them. And you will earn as well from that stake. Every day a bit to claim :)

The Listnerds can be earned by having a verified email (for now) and you can get it by having 20+ upvotes (so every downvote deducts one upvote) or by sending a SOLO email when you have 10000 MAIL tokens, those get verified even without the 20 upvotes. And you will see the a claim ready the next morning.

They come staked, and you will notice that the staking rewards from Listnerds are quite great! Even when you don't have too many, if you compare the reward you're getting for that amount of tokens, is great. It makes me happy every morning haha.

Hope that's all clear. I heard some whispers that there will be more ways though ;) keep an eye out for updates :)

Great guide as usual @thisismylife. The Grammarly tip is a great one. English is my primary language but Grammarly saves me frequently.

Thank you, I can imagine. Even though it's not officially my primary language, I remember being only one out of two children in the class room speaking English at a young age. It always felt very natural to me. But to be honest, nowadays I need Grammarly more for my native language haha. I truly lost connection to the grammar in Dutch and have a better feel for English.

I definitely would be trying that in the future. I also like your Grammarly shout out.

It's so easy to have, and yes, sometimes an error slips through of course but I've noticed that I now often already recognize the mistakes that I make often thanks to Grammarly marking them lol. So I'm faster than Grammarly to correct it. Teaching me a thing here and there ;)

Very good advice. I need to up my MAIL game with some good formating. I can't seem to get over 20 UV's and I'm getting some DV's which is discouraging. But I still have a few weeks of enterprise to try to earn back my investment. !ALIVE

I noticed that sometimes it takes a few days before it gets to 20 upvotes. Sometimes people run out of votes so it seems. But some extra attention to the formatting won't hurt, that's for sure :) I also vote my team members first, after that those that stand out, before heading over to the rest. I bet everyone does that.

Out of curiosity, do you find it productive (more tokens) to email the same post multiple times? Many seem to use that technique and I wonder how well it works. Thanks

I have so far been able to get them all verified, but I'm not a fan of doing that. I've only done it due to lack of time. To not let a mail go to waste. I do find it very annoying when people send out the same thing every single day though. I made sure it was 5 to 7 days at least when I did it. Even more annoying: twice a day the same thing. I'm not upvoting these myself. I do have a few community highlights that I can use again, but I will link it to the most recent weekly post instead of the same one. At least then it's somehow fresh content.

Don't be afraid to try, once you know, you know. I save all my code that I use in the email editor in a Hackmd file (or word or wordpad, whatever you prefer) so that I can just copy and past that last part of the code from the previous email into the new one. It's truly simple once you know!

Good luck!

I don't know what went wrong, I only know that this is how I was taught and it never failed. It only failed the first time as I didn't copy the code correctly, but that was clear when it happened. I accidentally didn't use the full html code but one of the others..

This guide has helped all my team members to get it right, I hope it helps you get it right too :)

Hey man, you do awesome work! I am reading your emails, and now lots of things are explained in my mind. I incidentally dropped in ListNerds and every single day is really fun. I was searching for some answers in their FAQ but I didn't find them... Actually, you answered my questions!

Thank you for the full guide on how to do things!

!LUV

First of all, thank you very much for these useful and nice guides! They are really great easy to follow. I had a couple of questions, one regarding formatting and another more about content.

Last week I experimented with a low-res image in an email embedded. I think it looked pretty good, but of course, people with better displays may find it icky. My next experiment is using a better quality image using your scale solution in here. However, a doubt appeared in my mind. Should I use only the image? Or it would be much better if I add some little text lines above or below the image? I always use the image centered, I think they work pretty cool in Listnerds! But I'm hesitant to use text.

The next question is regarding my content. You see, I'm a Splinterlands freak and all my content in my HIVE account lately revolves around that game. The thing is, even though I can write in English good enough to be understood, I want to focus my efforts in the Splinterlands Spanish-speaking community. My question is: should I write my Listnerds emails in Spanish or in English? I'm not a fan of dual language posts or emails, and to be honest, I think it could be a good way to segment my audience inside Listenerds. But I really don't know if I'm doing it right. On the one hand, I don't want to bother people who doesn't speak the language telling them that my content is in Spanish when they already read the email in English. But on the other hand, I don't want to alienate people who doesn't speak the language. I'm interested in reading your opinion about this subject.

For the time being I'm using the free Listnerds plan and I had enough MAIL tokens to send at least two Solo Mails.

Thank you very much in advance for your time reading my questions and I hope everything goes great for your family! Have some !PIZZA !PGM !LOLZ !CTP !HBIT !LUV, please! I wish I could give you more for all your helpful content!

This is the part I don't understand how it works, I'll have to wait till my next mail to be able to test it.

image.png

If you ask someone who knows HTML code, the missing apostrophe " makes no sense for the code to work properly, an unclosed tag usually breaks the working of the code.

The W3 HTML School shows this:

Since I wrote that comment I was able to try it myself multiple times. It works with the closed tag/quote, this is how it's supposed to be, open quote for description and then close it. I think in your case it works because you are using this img-fluid class at the end of your img tag, otherwise, if you do it your way at the beginning without closing the quote, it will break your code.

This is how I use it and it works no problem:

That target= tag will open the mail in a new tab automatically, and border set to 0 or 1 I guess you know what it means. 😁

Too complicated to grab my head around at this moment, but thanks for trying as well as leaving it as a comment, because if other people have a similar question, they read this comment from you (I hope) and get the answer.

I have never used these codes until the listnerds dev told me how-to, and I just adapted that from that moment. When uploading the image on imgbb, the code looks different than yours above, so my guess is that it has something to do with that code generated there why it's placed in the back. But like I said, my brain is not 100% today so I'm not gonna try to figure it out :)

Nice information but I wonder and also saw some people in the comments had problems with your code.
You say to cut off the last " for some reason. That's not how HTML works.

You definitely need the last ".
Just look at all the other tags and commands. There are always 2 of them.
Besides that, you made good content.

Wow you are the first one to catch this in a way so that I notice the mistake I have corrected (maybe months ago already?) but I totally missed that I still had 2 screenshots in there (one correct, and one incorrect) where I also missed editing the part where I mention without the " :)

Great catch!

I had the code right, but accidentally missed copying the " when creating this post (I have 0 HTML knowledge lol) Then I figured that I just copied the code correctly and gave instructions according to what I saw. My mistake! I did notice this months ago and edited it with the correct screenshot, but apparently, I totally missed some parts of the text that still pointed out incorrect instructions. I think my luck has been that most people saw the first screenshot and therefore managed to follow the instructions correctly.

Too bad that I didn't figure out the mistake in the steps earlier, ugh. Thank you for doing so!
