Pancit chismis on a Sunday funday

Pancit chismis.png

Hello Hello Silver Bloggers and indeed all Hivians

It is here, it is finally fluffing here up in the Northern Hemisphere and by that I mean June and summer.

Although of course I am wearing my hoodie as I type this...

Summer what summer, we did have 22 degrees C today so I guess it could be worse.

I love June it is the start of summer and the only three months in the year that I care about.

June is the month of our wedding anniversary, July is the birth month of Mrs T an August is the birth month of yours truly, the rest of the months are generally cold and depressing in the UK, I could replace them quite easily!

Before I go on, let me say that today is Sunday and this post is for #beautifulsunday hosted by @ace108 and #sublimesunday hosted by @c0ff33a.

Those are two great initiatives by two great long term Hivians!

Some of you might have been drawn by the Filipino clickbait in my title ....

Chismis is almost like gossip ... am I right @lhes we used to do a lot of that when we were at read.cash and I am sure @ifarmgirl and @jane1289 remember those days...

So yes June is a special month for Filipinos as it is Philippines Independence Day on Wed 12 Jun 2024 ...

Woohoo congratulations on that...

It is also what prompted dinner on this fun sunday....

We had a Chinese takeaway on Thurday night, but never got round to eating the rice, the chow mein (thin noodles) or the chicken satay .... see below ...

image.png

It looked a bitty bland for my liking ...

So whilst Mrs T was videocalling her sister and the pair of them were making fun of me I knocked up a dish..

June 12th as I mentioned is Philippines indy day and I thought of pancit ...

I fluffin love Pancit!

o I got some garlic, some peas, some bacon and some onions and ...

bish bosh

chop it all up

splash in some olive oil

and

image.png

bam ... what ya get!

image.png

That then is my version of pancit, I tell you what when that peanut butter from the chicken satay hits your mouth then wow it is tasty or as they say in Cebu ... lami! or sarap in tagalog I think, ach I forget...

So then served up with a couple of pita bread and you have dinner ....

image.png

Now there is another reason why 12th June is special to me and helps explain why I love Filipinos...

June 12th is my wedding anniversary.

So today's pancit was a bit of an early Philippines Independence Day celebrations and Anniversary celebration mixed in with plenty of chismis!

Did you look closely @asiaymalay ... no cucumbers in my food!

Yeah tasty indeed and even some left over for Mrs T to take to her work tomorrow for lunch!

Job done, and one less chore for Cinderfella to do in the morning....

Yes indeed it was Pancit chismis on a Sunday funday

image.png

Thanks for visiting and enjoy June people!

June is the month of our wedding anniversary, July is the birth month of Mrs T an August is the birth month of yours truly,

Ohhh wow I love how the events follow chronologically. In my family I and my two sisters were born in September. If this Monday is my birthday the next Monday would be my elder sister’s birthday and the Monday that follows would be my little sister’s birthday😊

That looks delicious! We always skip the rice now and get noodles instead.

It was tasty I will say that. Some noodles I find a bit bland, probably the thicker ones as I not really a pasta person.

My wife and I are pasta fiends, but we don't eat as much as we used to. We used to have a really great Thai place in town, but they closed down. Your finished dish reminds me of something that might have come from there.

Pancit looks yummy😯. It's my father's favourite dish.

That was a good treat too oneself! They say that pancit symbolize 'long life ' so don't cut it like the spags! Adding 'monkey's ears' will add to the flavor. It's not literally the ears of monkeys. Lol! But rather it's a mushroom like algae that grows on dead woods. This kind of prep is called Bam-i it's a combination of pansit and sotanghon. Try it! Btw, happy wedding anniversary to you both. I wish you more years to go and don't waste your time with tsismis. Lol. It's new lingo is now "marites" to keep you updated.:) Have a nice day!

Ah yes marites, I guess I just like the sound of tsismis hehe! Oh it symbolizes long life well I never knew that, perhaps it's why I like it so much. Now you have me googling Monkey's ears. Thanks for that @sarimanok I love finding out about other cultures! Wishing you a wonderful new week.

Wow,wow, wow - pancit kalami! Except for the peas you added, I enjoy pancit canton with a variety of vegetables. Chismis, as the new terminology goes, is now Marites. Enjoying pancit with a glass of soda is also "lami"! Hmm...am famished!😋

hehe yes I always get the why add peas to the pancit, but the laugh is I made this sort of thing long before I knew about pancit and all the different types hehe. Sometimes I use caulifower and broccoli it all depends what I have that needs eating up! Lami I love that word 😁

Hello, there @tengolotodo/ #SuperEd! You can add a variety of ingredients to a pancit. Whatever you have in your refrigerator or your garden. Whatever's edible. I know someone added edible flowers to her pancit, and it's "LAMI GYUD KAAYO!" 😊🌷💕 By the way, is your wife a Cebuano? 😊 My mother is from Cebu as well. Hey, she was also born in August! They believed that those born in August are the smartest of the months.😊

I dislike cold winters when I lived in mid-west in USA but 22 degrees is kind of nice.
Our days here are quite hot and our nights are probably 24/25 but get 22 occasionally.

We are lucky and not cold cold as in rarely snows here etc but the summer is rarely ho either. Too cold for me. I could could cope with 20s all year round with 30s in the summer. But it is what it is, climate change has taken effect here.

Hahaha. The clickbait title and cover image got me here. 😅

Your version of pancit looks good. My friends and collegues used to say our food is bland. Well compared to curries and masala, then it really is. Lol. But they enjoyed a good portion of pancit whenever we had Pinoy celebrations in the office.

How ironic is it, that in June we Filipinos celebrate our independence while you celebrate getting tied to Mrs T until forever. Happy Anniversary!

Haha now I had never thought about it like that!

Ah I do love pancit although I do my own version and it is a good way to use leftovers up from the fridge!

Nice pancit! Looks great! I didn't realize chismis is rumor in the Philippines, in Spanish it's chismes. So it makes perfect sense since the Spanish had such an influence on the culture there for so long.

How are you doing these days? Ready for the anniversary?

Yeah there are lots of words that essentially the same as syempre springs to mind. Ah yes, wife finishes work today so will meet her in town for a wee drink or two and think about what we need for our week away. I worked out she will be going five boats of various sizes hehe it has taken me a long time to get her on boats. Colorado is landlocked so she was why do I need to go on a boat, I don't like when I can't stand up in water lol
Yeah my evil streak...
