A very feathery grassy tail

Hello Hello Hivians

When I was up at 5 this morning making Mrs T's breakfast and lunch so she could take to work, the sun was shining!

Yes it was fluffing shining, I was in shock, the weather in July has been crappy to put it mildly. Sun hidden by grey clouds and often threatening to rain and indeed at times raining!

So when Alexa said it will rain at 9am and then continue to be crappy weather with rain for the rest of the week, I hatched a plan.

A very feathery grassy tail.png

Making a sandwich for me, and packing some bird seed for the birds, and some pellets for the ducks and swans, and making myself a thermos of coffee, I packed the backpack, grabbed my camera and phone and zipped up to the park.

Yesterday I saw that @nelinoeva had posted Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 126! and the theme was birds in the grass.

I do love to join in the #smap and make a wee story, so today I was determined as I walked to the park that I would take some suitable pictures and make a post. After all I am sure there were jackdaws, magpies and pigeons aplenty that would give me a story ... right?

7965 FF 24 July Blackbird 1.jpg

However, before I had got to the park, this wee blackbird was looking at me and saying .... Hey, what about us, we wander around in the grass!

7967 FF 24 July Blackbird 2.jpg

Just look at those little eyes looking at me!

image.png

Into the park I went, and crossing the football pitches on the way to the pond, I got given the tail!

7985 FF 24 July Magpie 1.jpg

Given the tail?

Yes Mrs T is American and when they flip you off with their middle finger they call it giving you the bird. So when a bird turns it back on you, I call it them doing the bird or giving you the tail!

Off to the pond I went ...

7997 FF 24 July Swan far shot 1.jpg

I had spied the swans, do you see them with the five kids? That is for another day, today is about what we see on the grass.

Of course I was feeding the swans and that attracted attention!

7998 FF 24 July Mallard female preening 1.jpg

Actually, I had spied the swan family at the bottom of the pond, so as I was getting my food out, I saw Margie Mallard having a preen of her feathers in the grass. Clickety Click onto my post you come Margie!

7996 FF 24 July Mallard female preening 2.jpg

Am I pretty enough for the post Tengo I heard her say!

Oh fluff yes I told her...

Right then back to the birds on the grass!

I did drop some bird seed and Jackie Jackdaw did give the waterfowl the bird by turning his back on them...

8000 FF 24 July Jackdaw 1.jpg

image.png

I walked up and was feeding the swans, you can see them chowing down on their little brown pellets....

8010 FF 24 July swan family feeding 1.jpg

.... but look who were watching on with jealously written all over their feathers!

8012 FF 24 July seagull watching swan family feeding 1.jpg

Yes, some of the seagulls. The swans might tolerate ducks but no fluffing way will they let seagulls steal their food!

Normally the moorhens are pretty skittish and will run away from me, but this one was wanting to see what was going on!

8013 FF 24 July Moorhen 1.jpg

So it joined in and stood in the gallery watching the swans eating their food!

8015 FF 24 July Moorhen 2.jpg

By this time, the word was out, the gallery was growing!

8030 FF 24 July 3 female mallards 1.jpg

A trio of female mallard ducks had joined the gallery. They were really envious of the swans being fed. In fact ...

8040 FF 24 July mallard mu hand 1.jpg

... Milly Mallard was so inquisitive and demanding that I thought she must be a female Hivian🤣 Joking aside, she wanted to feed.

She actually took some of the pellets out of my hand, bless her.

image.png

I had fed the swan family and a few ducks moorhens and coots, and now it was time to go and take some pictures for another post that I had in mind.

8100 FF 24 July magpie daisies 1.jpg

The magpies were still looking at all the commotion from the birds feeding at the pond.

8114 FF 24 July magpie by tree 1.jpg

Even Mad Maximilian Magpie got in on the act. You will note that he was watching from prison where he is serving out his sentence for stealing gold rings.

8144 FF 24 July magpie prison 1.jpg

I was heading out one of the gates when I spotted the courting couple, Samson and Sarah Seagull.

8142 FF 24 July seagull pair 1.jpg

They looked like they were joined at the hip. But then...

8143FF 24 July seagull pair 2.jpg

... Samson took a step backwards and said ...

"I beg your pardon Sarah but what did you say?"

The last picture above is my entry ☝️☝️☝️ for #smap 126, check Feathered Friends - Show Me A Photo Contest Round 126! for more details and the theme is birds in the grass.

I am not so sure that was the best picture as my entry, would you have chosen another one?

Thanks for visiting and have a fantastic July ....

Looks like you had a beautiful and fun day at the park, Tito Ed! Your story along with the photos are fascinating. It felt as if I was reading a tale from a book, but then there's the suspense at the end😅 Anyway, it's so nice to see a lot of your feathered friends out there. 😍

It was a wonderful two hours CJ and then the weather went crappy again just like it is now and forecast for the rest of the week.
Thank you, I do love to try to and tell a feathered friends story when I take pictures and yes so much drama and suspense with the courting seagulls!

I hope you get out and about soon

Fantastic, Tito Ed. Would love to read how the courting went with those seagulls, lol!

Speaking of crappy weather, we have been having that recently and today is stormy so no chance to be out anytime soon.

So delightful and so funny, you know how to put a smile on the faces of your readers. 😀
Where to start from? All photos are lovely. I know it is hard to choose your entry photo, but you made a good choice.
I am always fascinated by the swans and it must be very entertaining feeding them and the other birds. Free food is a magic word that spreads faster than the light. Feeding the duck from your hand, that is so cool.
I love how you name the birds, especially Mad Maximilian Magpie.
Thank you again for your wonderful entry!🙂

Thank you Neli, yes I do love to get a good funny story with all the birds, so that is great to hear it brings a smile to your face.

The swans yeah they are so cool, this year the breeding pair are quite young os Dad is quite protective, as in he loves to hiss at me whilst eating the food Igive him at the same time!

Oh yes Mad Maximilian Magpie was quite the mouthful but naming them is fun too!

Thank you so much for the points and have a wonderful rest of your week 😁

Magpie most definitely up to tricks, each a lovely short story wrapping up walking on grass. Gorgeous pond to go visit with plenty of bird life to entertain.

Intelligent little guys we don't get to see the larger ones you have.

Magpie shrike is found in our region a lot smaller not such pronounced black/white, more a white V on black back.

!LUV have a great day.

Beautifully taken pictures and the back storyline - impressive. You do know how to give a voice to your feathered friends, like they spoke words only you understand and can relay, boy did you do a great job, I only have to report to the hiveans act alike you mentioned earlier to make them feel proud of such a kind gesture. The voice of the feathered creatures.💕

Thank you for your kind words, oh yes the animals do talk to me, and I quite often have recurring animals in my stories.

This is a beautiful Teng, I can imagine what the scenes were like because of the stories attached and I think Sarah said she was going home with you that was why Samson took the steps backwards.

We've been experiencing consistent rainfall here and despite loving the cool weather, it's hindering lots of things for us.

I came through the dreemport

Haha!!!

I loved this. Eddie W. was in his element chatting with all those birds. 💙

Now, Super Ed, I have to ask two questions.

What do you mean by

Milly Mallard was so inquisitive and demanding that I thought she must be a female Hivian🤣

Will I need to give you the bird? 🤣🤣🤣 You are so funny, Super Ed!

And please, tell me what did Sarah say? 😉

🤗🤗🌀

And as for Sarah, I am not sure, I think I shall have to go back and get the answer!
