It has been pishing with rain and blowing a hoolie most of the day and this put paid to my plans to go for a walk and a spot of fresh air.

One good thing is that there is heaps of footy on the box tonight, so I am flicking through games as I write this.

I was talking to someone this afternoon about hacking and being hacked, and scams and that sort of hoohaa.

This got me to thinking of all the scams we see on hive, and the poor unfortunate souls who have had their accounts hacked...

We were chatting away, and came to the conclusion that in the majority of cases they were not hacked at all. They gave their accounts away.

Unless you have been living on the moon, you really can't have failed to notice the advice of never click on links etc.

The old adage that if it seems to good to be true then it probably is, is never so more apt than it is for Hive or the web.

Click here and get x amount of Hive, that is greed that is making that link be clicked. If an account is taken over from doing that, then in my opinion it is not being hacked it is being give away.

As I told @atyourservice recently, we make our own luck!

So this also got me to thinking. I stopped giving a f.ck a long time ago, as I never really been bovvvered with what people think of me. (thanks @mypathtofire for putting Katherine Tate in my head 🤣)

Then I was reminded of a word my father-in-law would proudly describe himself as ...
It was so not true..

He would say he was a curmudgeon

He was a larger than life generally fun man.

For those of you that don't know what a curmudgeon is, then I defer to Dictionary

noun
a bad-tempered, difficult, cantankerous person.

Generally though, the accepted meaning includes old and man!

Vocabulary says

Old, cranky, and more than a little stubborn, a curmudgeon is the gruff, grey-haired neighbor who refuses to hand out candy at Halloween and shoos away holiday carolers with a "bah humbug!"

I looked at myself in the mirror and thought to myself...

Look at you, you cantankerous curmudgeon you!

To which the mirror responded...

Today, I was telling someone too that those who fall prey to scammers are mostly those who have refused to learn about their finances and are still living in the falsehood that they need a certain breakthrough (in the form of an investment opportunity) to double their money.

Even though such things happen, it's a one-time thing. And it takes someone who had gone through a series of training around money and investment to identify that jackpot.

Apart from that, just merely folding our hands and hoping for this breakthrough, only makes us liable to be scammed.

Hello, my dear @tengolotodo I read your post and I refer to all the money they took from a colleague in the hive, it is likely to have clicked on a link of those that you paint as the crown jewel, and it turns out that it is to embezzle your account. I don't even touch anything I don't know and when I learn something strange I ask the experts in the field so as not to be foolish not to say the bad word hahahahahah.
