How I Prepared for A Power Outage

Hello! I hope Filipinos are safe right now. Even though the super typhoon has moved out of the country, the rain is still pouring continuously especially in the northern areas causing floods and landslides. Reports say that the typhoon is pulling the south west monsoon causing more rain in the country.

Rain has been moderate to heavy the entire day and even right now as I am writing this post. And because of that flood has started to build up this afternoon. This is quite a problem because if flood continues to rise, flushing the toilet will cause it to overflow and I would need the flood to subside before I can go out and buy groceries. (Well, look at that..toilet and groceries in one sentence. Lol.)

Anyway, Iet's go back two days ago when the super typhoon Egay has just landed in the Philippines. Our province experienced strong winds, although I haven't felt it that much because our house is surrounded by 3-floor buildings. I didn't know our town and a nearby city was already getting havoc by strong winds. I only found out when I watched some reports and interviews yesterday. A mayor even referred to it as "ipo-ipo" (whirlwind). If I didn't look for news I wouldn't even know the damage the strong wind had caused. I can only hear some ocassional 'woosh' sound from the wind that day. Afternoon came and suddenly there was a power outage.

And thank goodness because I have this emergency lamp in my room!

I bought this last year (also during rainy season) because I am afraid of the room suddenly getting pitch black dark when a power outage happens at night. This lamp switches on when the electricity shuts off. It's really very helpful for me because I no longer have to reach for my phone to turn on the flashlight nor look for a candle. My mind can't stop thinking about paranormal stuff when it's dark that's why having an emergency lamp was one of my best decisions.

I can't remember how much it costs but it was pricier than the other emergency lamps because a full charge can last about 30+ hours. You can put it on top of a desk or you can also hang it on the wall. The two 'headlights' can also be twisted to the direction you want.

Since this lamp is hanged on the wall, it's a hassle to take it out which is why I bought some keychain lights to carry around the house.

This is also a very useful light device because despite being tiny, the light is bright enough to light your way. It has two brightness options and one blinking option for emergency use. Aside from that, I guess the feature which I love most from this keychain light is its magnet. I can easily attach it to the metal bar in the bathroom or at the gas stove cover when I cook. If I'm not mistaken, this product was advertised as a light for bikers and campers but it was very useful for me at home instead. Lol. It even has a bottle opener and a stand. It's also rechargeable so you don't have to worry about purchasing batteries.

Of course, I think power banks are now a necessity these days because we all have smartphones and we basically need our phones working all the time. Well, it seems like getting a power bank with bigger capacity despite the weight was a wise choice because I was able to charge the other tablet and even use it to switch on my ring light.

Yup. The ring light. I never thought this can serve as an emergency light as well during a power outage. I bought this as lighting for the products I sell. Lol. I tried connecting it to the power bank and voila! The room turned bright. Its light was even brighter than the emergency light on the wall! What a surprise! And because of it, I was able to eat my dinner with ease.

And that's how I survived the power outage which lasted for around four hours. My next goal is to have a rechargeable fan. Long term goal is to have solar panels installed.

What are your power outage solutions? Let's pray the rain would finally stop because it's already causing damage, anxiety, and inconvenience for everyone. 🤞 Keep safe and good night! ♡

I have a flashlight and a UPS for my computer. The rest, i just have to wait until they fix whatever the problem is. We frequently have power spikes or the power will go out for a few minutes, but it rarely goes off for hours at a time, thank goodness.

UPS is really needed in your situation in there. How are your appliances though?
I rarely use my computer right now but I should get a ups too someday.

I feel the same when it's pitch black due to brown out. It pays to be always ready for this kind of situation. I have my emergency lights too but I think I should buy that kind that you have.
