Hive-Engine Tokens Not All The Same Beast

Authored by @metzli

Hello @spinvest readers,

@metzli here welcoming herself back. As some of you may remember, this blog was my Tuesday Spot, where I took the time to highlight different Hive-Engine tokens.

Today I would like to discuss different types of Hive Engine Tokens

All tokens are not created equal.

Some tokens are meant to give you governance over tribes, or what I like to call "mini Hive hubs."

For example, the more LEO tokens you HODL, the more governance you have on the leofinance site. The more POB you HODL, the more governance you have on the proofofbrain site. The More NEO you HODL, the more governance you have on the neoxian.city site. WEED helps you rule weedcash.network, and so on and so forth.

HODLing "governance" tokens makes you sort of like a business owner. The more you have of these tokens, the more you own a part of a tribe. Owning a large percentage of a token, means you have more power at a specific tribe.

Please note that these "governance tokens" don't give you ownership of a token. For example, it does not matter that I own 3.5 million BLOG tokens. I have zero power there anyway, because the owner of the site keeps selling an insane amount of tokens for cheap.

I could buy millions upon millions more, and it would not matter, the blogtoken site owner could just decide to dump the project, and I would then own lots of governance on a dumped project.

But I digress...

Point is, that some tokens, give you clout on a certain site, and owning them, give you power there.

Other tokens are not governance tokens at all, but a different beast

For example, the @spinvest token SPI.

Although it is the original, it is not the one and only. There is also BRO, Utopis, SEED, and probably lots more.

These types of tokes do nothing for your upvote, but they are wealth builders. When you buy these tokens, you are buying a chunk of a mutual fund.

Each token has its own investment mechanism, but the point of them is roughly the same. Owning this type of token, means that you own a part of the wealth that these tokens are earning.

If you own SPI, you own a little bitcoin, Eth, some gold, LEO, and other goodies. You can see the exact amount of the wealth you HODL in the weekly reports.

If you own SEED, it means you are owning a chunk of wealth that @empoderat is building for SEED Hodlers.

Although you can do whatever you want with these tokens (your monkeys, your circus), they are not really meant to be buying and trading and moving around. They are meant to HODL and build long term wealth.

Sure, you can scour Hive-Engine, and buy and trade them to make small HIVE gains, but the way to win with these is to HODL long term, and have your wealth grow long term.

Some of the tokens, like @elianaicgomes points out in yesterday's post are actually slowed down buy the constant "flipping" of the token.

Others, like SPI, don't really make much of a difference for how much you buy and sell them on the Engine for. Those of us who HODL, know that even if someone dumps them on Hive Engine, and the price of them becomes cheap, they still stay backed by Bitcoin and other assets.

Another type of token, is the rewards token

I am talking !LUV, !Engange, !Beer, !Wine, or !Pizza

I am sure there are more.

The point of HODLing these tokens is kind of like tipping people.

Someone left you an awesome comment? You can give them LUV or Pizza to thank them.

People who receive these tokens can either HODL them, and save them up until they too have enough tokens to call on the rewards bot, or they can sell them on the engine right away.

Usually these types of tokes are backed by the community who uses them.

An interesting market to watch is the LUV market. It is so small, that sometimes it swings violently. Right NOW you can get some super cheap LUV, but sometimes, you have to pay as much at 0.2 Hive to get your hands on some.

So there are three types of tokens on the Hive-Engine

What other types of tokens are there, and which are your favorite to HODL?

An interesting guide!
In the case of #pizza i'd like to mention that they've added a couple of earnings options in the forms of Diesel Pools, Staking Giveaways and Community Events. It's a fun place!

Thanks :)

I hear lots of good things about Pizza - including that they share code with !LUV

I'd love to highlight them next week - can you link their discord?

^THIS!! I'm getting a surprising return on the PIZZA:DEC pool on tribaldex. In addition to the larger than expected PIZZA payout, it pays DEC, SWAP.HIVE, and SIM. One of my better earners by comparison, as I only have around $300, I think.

Owning a couple of tokens in each class is a good way to try and diversity your Hive-Engine portfolio, I own a little from all three categories.

I agree, and, owning SPI means you own a little bit of Bitcoin and other off HIVE assets as well.

Are you aware of any tribe tokens that also function as reward tokens in the same manner as the reward tokens you mentioned in this post? So they can be earned via adding content to that particular front end, but also tipped out with a bot command?

I don't! And that sounds like a very interesting project if anyone would take it on.

I do know that you can tip HIVE which is the closest thing to what you are asking that I can think of.

So there’s a tipbot for Hive that works like pizza & luv? How do I access it?

Also, imma gonna try to !LUV you up with another slice of !PIZZA... Chicago style, maybe..., whatever the fat hearty one is. No sense half-assing it. 😁

I feel like this question may have been over looked or missed so I hope you dont't mind if I ask again.

Did I understand you correctly that there's a "!something" command I can give to tip Hive in the same way as !PIZZA, !LUV, AND !BEER, etc? I would love to have access to that... my upvote is worth shit so these are a nice (and super fun) way to tip additionally.

I have some free time so I'm going back over discussions I may have missed something in and I'd like to discuss this farther if you have the time and inclination.

I have two chains of thought on it.

The first is that having the ability to mine tokens via tipping others seems like it would increase the value of the tribe as a whole since it would make holding that token more functional, but...

I also wonder if minting new money for a tribe in the same way as the HIVE ecosystem works may cause the token to crash since the stake is so low to generate such a significant incentive. I get quite a bit of PIZZA from the LP (from a % perspective, anyway). It didn't take long at all to get enough staked to be able to call the command, so would that impact negatively?

Pizza seems to be doing ok, but I don't know the metrics behind it so I don't know why. You have any thoughts on it?

It all really has to do with the token and it's individual tokenomics.

As far as tipping via HIVE - I'll have to do some research as I know @crosheille has tipped me more than once but I don't exactly know how she does it.

The little gift box directly about is for tipping and Hive is one of the options, but I’m interested in a tipbot with a command like pizza that allows one to mint instead of spend.

Do you know who really has a grasp on this stuff I could !ENGAGE with? I try to have !LUV & !PIZZA on hand for good conversation. 😁

@sinistry so i just noticed but just like Crosheille explained, you can tío via peakd. Nice and simple.

But that’s just using the gift box icon, correct?

That’s handy, & I use it for older posts that can’t be upvoted anymore, but the crux of what I’m asking about revolves around the value creation aspect more so than value transfer.

Anyway, I feel like I’ve eaten rough of your time in this pursuit. I’ll let you know if I find what I’m looking for or find someone who wants to collaborate on something like it.

Have some !LUV & !PIZZA! Thanks for !ENGAGE ing!

Thank you so much for the mention metzli!

INDEX is like you said, a different beast. Was created to buy and hodl so you can earn by doing just so.
Even though the token is working fine meaning sending dividends every day to the holders, these pesky flippers do slow down the growth of the token.

INDEX is backed by the tokens it represents so it needs "fresh HIVE" to buy the tokens to increase its holdings. More holdings, more dividends for everyone!

If someone is buying and selling for the sake of a few pennies not only it's just silly in my opinion but also it turns the market in some kind of loop and INDEX never receives buy orders, or "fresh HIVE".

For more info, you can check https://he-index.io/ :)

Pesky flippers. Lol.

We have whales, orcas, dolphins, minnows… and pesky flippers.

SPI, LBI, EDS, CL
Isn't it all a bit of the same family ....🤔

This is a fair point worthy of discussion... I think BRO might fall in there somewhere too.

Bro is ran by a different group. There might be a lot of the same investors but it is governed by a completely different team.

Thank you for clarifying this! Apologies for the confusion.

!ENGAGE some of this !PIZZA. I wrap it in !LUV. 😊

Yes. They are all the same family, but they are more like cousins than sisters as each had their own government and their own base token.
