Creativenonfiction#58 - My First Attempt At Face Makeup

In life I have learned that in order to be good at something, you need to first acquire the knowledge no matter how little it is and also endeavor to practice what you have learned.

This prompt made me laugh as it brought memories of my first attempt at face makeup.

It happened that I had a very big party I was to attend and I wanted to look very good that I made my hair at the salon, sewed a very beautiful gown for myself, and got everything ready for the party.

The last thing on my list for the party was my makeup and that could only be done on that day of the party and instead of requesting the service of a makeup artist, I decided to "try out" the makeup myself.

Some days before the day I was to attend the party, I watched some YouTube videos on how to do your makeup and it was so easy in the videos I watched so I figured it would be easy when I wanted to do mine. I went ahead and got all the necessary things needed and didn't even make any practice what I have learned.

I got eyeliners, eye pencils, face primer, eyeshadow pallet, lipsticks, some brushes and so on.

On the day I was to attend the party, after having my bath, I sat in front of my mirror and started with my "makeup".

I started with the carving of my brows and that was the first mistake, I later learned I should have just left it the way since it was my first time.

The carving was so bad that I ended up removing everything and was left with no brows.

Next was the use of face primer to get my face ready. Wow, In my mind I was already feeling like a professional.

After some minutes I decided to draw my brows using an eye pencil. I drew it and it was so bent that I wiped it off using a face wiper, then proceeded to draw another. I was on it till I got one that I felt was manageable, all the while smiling at myself in the mirror.

The next was the use of eyeshadow. I used the brush and applied not one but about 3 different colors and blended it for some minutes till I noticed it was not looking nice at all. I wiped it off again.

At this point, you would think that I would just give up and go with my regular light makeup but No, I decided to see it through.

When I saw that I was running late to the party, I quickly rounded off my makeup and got dressed.

When I got to the party, the first person who spoke about my makeup was my cousin. That girl loves to tease me any chance she gets.

"Sis, who did your make-up?", She asked looking at me like I grew horns.

"What, is it not looking good on me?", I asked trying to play it cool.

" No, it's not. Don't tell me you left your house looking like this", she asked again while failing to hold her laughter.

I didn't even mind her, I left the makeup on my face like that even though deep down I knew it wasn't very good, especially from the looks I got from some people as well but I didn't want all my hard work to go in vain, I made sure I enjoyed myself at the party.

So after that day, I decided to practice again on my face when I was free so that I would be able to correct the mistakes I made on my first attempt.

The next party I attended, the makeup was way better than the first and I was glad when I received good remarks about it.

In the end, I learned that practice helps a lot in making us good at whatever we have learned.

Thanks for coming around.

It happens. Things look sooooooo easy when we watch others doing them. But we start doing them, we come to find out that we need to put efforts.

I applaud you for the confidence you had to enjoy the party.

LoL practice makes perfect, being scared of failure bis the reason why many people don't perfect anything. When you try it out and failed, you will learn. They may laugh at you but you are going through a process, when it's ripe same people would come to benefit from you.

But I wish I saw you on that make up😂😂

I can't even imagine how you would look wiping your entire eyebrow off😅. But like you said practice makes perfect and you have realised that in a very uncomfortable way.

😂😂😂 Trust me it was not a very good look. I am glad I didn't let that deter me and practiced more.

Thank you for coming around.

YouTube and making things look easy are like 5&6
I love your confidence though, and the fact that you have to wear it like that is so bold
