It was written by Ann Peebles, Don Bryant and Bernard "Bernie" Miller and produced by Willie Mitchell. It is featured in her fourth album of the same title, "I Can't Stand the Rain". According to what is said, the song has an interesting story; One evening in Memphis in 1973, Ann Peebles met friends, including Don Bryant, to go to a concert, and as they were about to set off, the heavens opened and Ann Peebles shouted: " I Can't Stand the Rain". Based on the resonant phrases, Don Bryant sat down at the piano and began riffing on the theme, weaving the ideas of Ann Peebles and Bernie Miller. The song was completed that night and presented to Willie Mitchell the next morning. Willie Mitchell used a brand new gadget, the electric timbale, to create the song's distinctive raindrop riff. In just one day, they created the song that would leave its mark on the years.

To be honest, I first heard the song from Tina Turner, but later I listened to the original version from Ann Peebles and I can say that I liked both of their performances very much. When I first heard the opening riff of "I Can't Stand the Rain", it blew my mind and it sounded so eerie, it still sounds eerie.
