Crispy Akara with creamy custard, a perfect morning treat

Hello, everyone welcome to Food Bee Hive community where you can show your cooking skills to people all over the world. And more so you can also learn from people from different countries.

Today I will be making a simple breakfast which is popularly known as Akara here in Nigeria (Beans Cake) the meaning in English, alongside with custard. Custard is a universal food so let's get into the kitchen and see how I prepared my yummy breakfast.

Akara (beans cake) is very stressful to prepare and for that reason, I don't like buying it outside simply because most people are not neat when preparing it.

Ingredients are:

Beans (2 cups)
Groundnut oil (500ml)
Salt (half teaspoon)
Pepper (10g)
Onion (1 ball)
Custard (3 tablespoons)
Sugar (1 tablespoon)
Milk (14g)

Preparation

I poured the beans into a bowl then opened the water inside, I started to wash the back of the beans off.

After that, I opened another water into the beans, then sieved the shaft away.

I sieved it twice so that it would be clean for blending

I poured the dry pepper into the beans then made use of a spoon to pack it inside the blender. I also added half a cup of water into the blender so that it will blend well.

I blended it for two minutes because beans don't blend easily.

I sliced the onion into pieces then set it aside.

After blending, I poured the blended beans and pepper into a clean bowl. I added half a teaspoon of salt to the blended bean.

I also added the sliced onions then made use of a turning stick to mix them.

I put a small frying pan on the burner, then allowed it to dry before pouring the 500ml of groundnut oil inside the pan.

After the oil was hot I made use of a cooking spoon to measure the blended beans into the hot oil until there was no space inside the pan again.

It fried for 3 seconds before I turned it to the other side, I also allowed it to fry for 2 seconds.

Then I made use of an iron sieve spoon to pack it away from the hot oil. The same process was applied to the rest of the blended beans.

After frying it's time for custard, this one is very simple to make. I just measured three tablespoons of custard into a clean pot then added one cup of water then put it on the burner.

I added one tablespoon of sugar inside on the burner then I started to stir it until it became thick.

Then custard was done so I opened a sachet of milk (14g) into a clean bowl, then added half a cup of water into it.

I stirred it to dissolve into the water, then I poured it on the custard.

The finishing look 😋

Now my yummy breakfast is ready, I hope you like it.
