MEDS, Banana Oats, and What's Up

The most pivotal thing about being an adult is that you get to make your own decisions, and you're responsible for them. So, therefore, you benefit from the outcomes of the good decisions and bear the consequences of the bad. Maybe one's not truly an adult yet if they don't realise this.

It has been a few days since I started working on my MEDS, and there has been significant progress so far. I don't have it all mapped out yet, but it's all coming together, bit by bit. The idea is to develop in certain areas and explore new ground internally.

Ever since I was a kid, I have never been excellent at getting adequate rest. My mind's often active, so much so that I'd rather stay awake if I can and don't feel exhausted yet. What I discovered in 2021 with workouts and weightlifting when I first discovered them was that they helped me sleep better, as well as bananas.

And so, I registered at the gym nearby once again. It was about time I did that, but I had been procrastinating because I was waiting for the "right time" when I had things together with my finances and plans. Time waits for no man, however, and so I just snapped out of my hesitation.

In the last 48 hours, I slept three times more than I usually would. I have flexible schedules these days, and so I can afford the shift in plans since I get adequate rest anyway. It's been rejuvenating so far, and that's the experience I have been looking for.

Now, that only makes up half of my MEDS—meditation, exercise, diet, and sleep. I have been focusing on exercising this week, and consequentially, that has brought me good sleep a little more frequently than previously. Diet and meditation are the next in line.

Meditation isn't something that I have really done much of before. I am not even sure I know how to do it effectively for myself, but I know that in the few times I have tried it in Creative Work hour sessions by Alessandra White, I felt a little more grounded than I normally would. So I am picking up on it again.

I am just going to do a little more research on how to go about it properly, explore its benefits to myself, and become more informed and benefit from the practice. As for diet, I held back on this one a little because of the circumstances I have found myself in lately.

I have been eating a lot more than usual these days, as exercising requires that I take in more calories to work efficiently and regain strength quicker. Otherwise, I would just get famished and become disoriented.

I have been studying more these days. I want to focus on self-development in many areas, especially in the next few weeks when I am on vacation from teaching and have more time to myself. I had already registered for a course on Cousera but slouched on it for a while, so that's what I have restarted and am now going through.

Have you tried cold banana slices in a warm bowl of cooked oats? I usually have it with milk and honey. It's a really nice meal to have in the mornings, way before breakfast, and it packs a bunch of calories that I think are apt for me as a pre-workout meal. I haven't had it in a very long time, so I have been craving it. Now that our electricity connections have been repaired after so many weeks, I think I'll get to enjoy it again.

...but that's by the way.

Two of my favourite podcasts to listen to every day are On Purpose by Jay Shetty and Waveform by Marques Brownlee and his team, MKBHD. On Purpose is self-help, and I get really profound expositions about life in general. Waveform is basically about tech, and I get informed insights on different tech-related topics there.

Something I have been a little bummed about lately is my growth on X. Apparently, I really don't know how to go about it. I know I have a really small account, so I do not expect much for now, but what worries me a bit is how to get to where I'd like to be. I'm open to tips.

Anyway. Perhaps I should call this a weekly review? Dunno, but these are my thoughts on how this week has been and partly what I look forward to in the coming week. Have a wonderful weekend!

What work for me was getting out of the routine of staying awake until late, also not consuming any kind of tv or video 2 hrs before sleep that way the brain is less active, sleeping drops help too but that was at first, now days I go to sleep no problem but I know the feeling, keep working on the good habits and you will master them with time 💪✌️

Oh, yes. Keeing one's brain active before bed time reduces good sleep. I have experienced that a lot. Good to know you found what works for you, too. As for me, I have been doing very well with my exercises and sleep ever since.

Greetings friends, being able to train is the best thing in life, whether it's just getting muscles, but it also helps you feel better, sleep, rest and have a good diet to be able to perform. It's incredible how you carry out each of the activities and that way you can move forward and that banana with oats is the first time I've heard it, well here in Venezuela they don't prepare it. Successes.

I appreciate your kind words, David. Yes, exercises do our bodies a lot of good, and we should try it regularly.

I am not sure if banana oats is a common thing. I just came up with the recipe one time and stuch with it since I enjoy it.

exercise is no doubt a good thing to do to help us to stay fit and leave healthy, I have also experimented it to help with sleep and trust me that its really helpful. we need to be tired to sleep well. for me I love to play football as much as I have the chance to keep fit.

You get the idea, man. I play football too, and I get the same results—better sleep, although I do not pay regularly. That's why I go to the gym now.

I love how committed you are to your MEDS!
The thing is that we all need to pay attention to the four of them for our overall well being. Also I think it is important that we find what works for us as individuals, since we all have different needs.

You are doing well, in my own opinion. Job well done!

When I first learned about MEDS and how important they are for one in their everyday lives, I just had to take it seriously. It's not how I want it to be now, but I'm moving forward regardless.

I appreciate your kind words, as always, Ng!

Are you back home, Jay? I guess you can only have time for these at home, especially the exercise part.
I love the acronym you gave to those activities — MEDS. Nice one!

I haven't tasted that banana and oat before, perhaps would give it a try someday. Hehehe.
Though consuming too much banana isn't for me, I get tired when I do that. Maybe because I don't like it much. I prefer plantain that is fried.

No o. I am actually still here at Rivers State. On the contrary, I get to pay more attention to my MEDS when I am in places near the city or where I have access to a gym. It's not like that back home.

Woah, you don't enjoy bananas much. Well, you don't have to eat so much with the banana oats. It's nothing complex, though. When next I do it, I'll show you a photo in DM.

I love plantain too. Very very much!

Okay. I will be expecting the photo too. I guess one is mostly inspired to visit gyms when a center is close to you. I wish there is one around me too, perhaps going there for the first time. Lol

Oh, yes. It's much harder to want to go to a gym when it is very far from you.

I think the universe is trynna tell me something, I watched a video yesterday on how to make good oat meals and now this? And all these while I’ve been having my oats the conventional way I guess it’s time to switch up.

I have issues with sleeping too, I am always active at night, I could literally cook a pot of soup by 1 am and it’s so frustrating!

Thanks for sharing😃

Yes, IB! The universe sent me to you. You, in particular! 😂 It's time to switch up.

It's so frustrating? Is it not you that carry you hand to the kitchen at 1 a.m.,? 😁 I know how it is being unnecessarily active at night. That's exactly why I exercise more so I get to sleep better. Come and joined me na. We are not plenty at my gym here

You really have a lot planned to achieve and I hope you do squash them.
And now that you mentioned oats, I think I need to go start eating it again but I prefer it with fried groundnut or pear, hmmm yummy. 😂

I do have a lot planned o. And guess what? Everything is going just as planned, although a little slow in some areas.

I have actually tried it with groundnut before, actually. It's tasty, but I just prefer the tenderness and cool temperature of the cold bananas instead.

Be like Luchyl Sabi good thing o 😂
