Chasing Passion, Embracing Change: The Filmmaker's Perpespective

I stumbled on a video on Instagram about a nominee for a category in the African Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards. In there, she talked about how she started as a storywriter and filmmaker. I watched through in admiration of the feat that she had attained at a young age and the path of success she was following. What was interestingly intriguing, however, was that she didn’t start as a storywriter but as a musician.

She used to be someone who was really inclined to music. She was a singer, and she had many friends who played the guitar, keyboard, drums, and bass. She would always be drawn to beautiful sounds—melodies, chords, rhythms—and even more to the artist that creates them. Jonathan McReynolds, Tye Tribbett, Todd Dulaney, and a couple of gospel musicians were her favorites. I knew that because we always talked about them, she and I.

Really old friends—that's what we were to ourselves. I have been playing the guitar for years now, but it was in the early days of learning that we were really close. What I had always thought of her was that she would eventually become a successful gospel singer and songwriter. I didn’t know this side of her—storywriting. Howbeit, she is into filmmaking and growing in success there, with works on Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Showmax, to name a few.

I didn’t think much of it all until I was in a conversation with someone today, just moments before Creative Work Hour by @alessandrawhite began. The conversation transitioned from “What’s with the astronaut?” to talking about career paths. And then I received insights from their wealth of knowledge gathered over many years of experience and understanding of life. It was profound, what I learned, and then it coincided with the story of my old friend.

We may not always get to follow the path we design in our minds or find ourselves where we may think, and that’s just life. Wherever one finds themselves, however, they should make the most of where they are, find purpose and meaning, and do their best to excel in that regard. And that was what I learned from that conversation.

I reflected on my life and thought about the times that I was no longer interested in and invested in, like I was once, and then I felt okay. Things may have changed the way they have because of one thing or another, but the very same “searching for value and grinding for passion” goes with me everywhere I go. Otherwise, I would often miss certain opportunities to expand as a person.

In a nutshell, I am reminded today that life is full of unexpected twists and turns. It is imperative that one embraces new opportunities and explores different parts, even if they deviate from our initial plans. Just like my old friend, who discovered her passion for storywriting and filmmaking, we should be open to change and be willing to adapt and grow when necessary. Who nose 🐽, we might uncover hidden talents and find success in unexpected places.

Countdown to a new year, dear reader! 📆

Some people are so stuck and hell bent on following their "plans". Little do they know that one has to be dynamic in order to thrive .

Ang being so rigid is what keeps one so stagnant. One has to learn to flow and adapt, evolve as the world revolves...

That's it! Plans changes and we should learn to move towards another path. Sometimes, we need to do something else to get something we planned on doing before.

I am glad you've surrounded yourself with amazing people and wish you good luck in your life journeys... whichever it may be.

Hello dearest fashionable dreemer. Happy new day to you, and most especially, a new year. If only we could get what we want always in life, but that really isn't the reality. We have to embrance change and evolve. That's how some people found success, and that's how it has been for ages now; not everyone is lucky to get what they want.

Yes, we have to embrace to evolve. That's how we roll as humans, hehe.

... and you are on point.

Thanks for sharing this encouraging post. I experienced that same situation when I joined the hive community. I don't like writing and I'm not a fan of reading but guess what, when I saw the opportunity to join Hive, I had to develop my interest in writing and reading. So if life gives you lemons make lemonade.

Once again, thanks for sharing and happy new year 🎊

Oh, Rayo. Trust me, I understand what that feels like. I came on to Hive to make music. I found writing along the way to be somewhat exhilarating, but I had a hard time getting used to it. Fast forward two years, I do it everyday now as a full-time Hiver. I'm glad you see the bigger picture so early. I take it that it's in the genes. @lizizoo is just as resilient.

Happy New year!

The truth is, as long as we live, the things we like will always change. What we placed importance on when we were much younger will change a bit as we grow older.

We might even stray a bit from our inclination but somehow, our path will brighten up, helping us use the rest of the things we gathered as we grew to build the next phase of our lives.

Thank you for sharing this @olujay. I am happy you learned a lot from the creative work hour and you were able to relate to some extent because of your friend.

That's very solid! An unwilling mind to change would continue to find friction ever so often. We grow, as so should our perspectives evolve.

I am happy that you bring insightful comments on my posts wherever you find the chance. Thank you.

How's the new year starting out for you?
I remember we talked about having realistic goals, I'm curious about your big chase this month.

If I tell you, you won't believe it. My year started on a good note. A good person subscribed to inleo premium for me. I am so happy 😍

I don't have any big chase for now. I am content with meeting people and having them read my blogs too.

I think that you deserve it. I see you are really active there. I am happy for you!

I am content with meeting people and having them read my blogs too.

That alone is big of a chase, I think. Meeting people and forming bonds with them is priceless. I hope you meet really amazing people.

So many times we become so rigid because of how strong willed we are to achieve some certain heights in life and we forget that we can get to that height through different pathways. Being opened to Opportunities is one sure way to keep improving in life.

You have spoken really thoughtful words Jay and I'm glad #dreemport brought me to read this. I'd keep in mind those advise in between.

This is profound, Hope.

It's not as easy as it sounds. With a regular reminder to ourselves that life doesn't always give us what we want, such an optimistic mindset would pave the way for one.

I couldn't agree more 😊. Let's be ready at all time and make the most of every opportunity given to us.

A lot of us get to experience this twist. I have. In a space of a year, so many changes have happened with me. Some i wanted and worked towards, the others happened against my will. But what can I do than try to get out the best from every course?
It's just the life. Change always comes.
Happy New Year, Olujay!

We don't always get what we want, and that's okay. We just have to learn to adapt. I admire your resilience through your change within a year. It must have been a lot; all for the better anyway.

Happy New year to you, Amaka.

Truth is, change isn't easy sometimes. I can imagine how it must have been for her to go through a whole new learning process. I'll let her know you said so.
